1-6-27 (Rev. 3/11/82) ACT I Scene 6 SETTING: Interior, the Pontipee house. The front door is stage right which opens into the main living roam. Left of the door is a staircase leading upstairs to the master bedroom. Next left is the door to the boys' bedroom and stage left of that is a large fire place. The left quarter of the stage is the kitchen area, including a sink, stove, counter and table with two long benches. There is a back door stage left out of the kitchen. The only furniture in the living room is a settee and an arm chair with a small side table. AT RISE: The house is an incredible mess: laundry hanging from the rafters; dishes piled high in the sink; dust everywhere and a wash basket five feet high with clothes sits just outside the boys door. CALEB is asleep on the settee, covered so he is not obviously visible. ADAM walks through the doorway, leaving MILLY standing there. Adam. Oh, /What a. MILLY (Like Adam forgot something) ?╟≤??* (ADAM goes out the door, picks her up and carries her across the threshhold. HE puts HER down. Horrified by what she sees, she stands on the threshhold, frozen with horror) MILLY (faltering, obviously commenting on the mess) a... nice, big, room. ADAM Yeah, well,i guess it could stand some redding up?╟÷ but now that you?╟╓re here?╟÷ (HE kicks the figure dimly seen stretched on the settee. CALEB rolls onto the floor) Wake up there. Wake up and meet your sister-in-law. This here's my brother Caleb. (Waving a hand in MILLY's direction) This here's my wife, Milly.
