Ij.101 Dixie Gaayon Avenue Sherman Oaks, CaL ifornia August 19 , 1958 Mr* A1 Freeman, Publicity Director Sands Hotel Las Vegas, Nevada Dear Al: Despite the use of the stationery, I must confess that X resigned from the Flamingo two weeks ago* Rather than go into a long explanation, I will state simply that my resignation stemmed from the fact that I refused to become the L#A* collector for the casino (at Al Parvin?╟╓s request) without receiving any ad- ditional income, I have not yet decided how to keep the kids fed. I have an offer from the ad agency that represents the Flamingo to go into a partnership, and I?╟╓ve also listened to a seductive song by an independent movie production company. Thus far, I?╟╓ve made no commitments. In the interim, I thought that I could pick up some extra cash in my old racket: writing. Naturally, Las Vegas would be a natural for me to write about, but I want a completely fresh ap- proach. . .one that normally is not done on Las Vegas. Las Vegas has gotten so much unfavorable publicity in the past. I felt that a story should be done on all the fine aspects of Vegas. Aside from the climate and its central location in the midst of scenic wonders, I felt tint something should be done to publ&ize the fantastic contributions to charitable & he&Xth funds, the relatively low major crime rate, etc. An then I thought of you. I remember your campaign to sell "Angel" Bread...with the idea of providing additional facilities in Rose De Hospital on a non-denom&national basis. I wonder if I could impose on you to provide me with the details of your campaign, how far it got, etc* I do know that you launched this after you re- ceived exclient treatment at the hospital...but what impressed me the most was the genuineness of your effort in a good cause, how you recruited stars & local merchants alike to lend their efforts. I would love to detail this in ray story...& should it in- terest you, my contact & desired outlet is the Readerte Digest... with a fair circulation.
