NATIONAL mimmumw ASSOCIATION, NC. July 10, 1963 My. AM!reeman Sands Hotel Las Vegas, Nevada Dear Al: I can only repeat what I told you during our phone conversation - that I am extremely sorry about developments and quite frankly surprised, if not even amazed, that our convention could be re- garded as something worth bidding for. You see, the one thing we have always tried to do in NPPA is to avoid creating a "poor mouth" impression by going hat-in-hand, begging for assistance, although Heaven only knows we have always needed help and still do. But because you and Jack Entratta have always been so cooperative and helpful, it would have been repugnant to me to call you and in effect say, "Here's what the Sahara is willing to do. Will you do better?" What's more, there have been discussions regarding an NPPA conven- tion in Las Vegas since as far back as 1952 or 53 when a group of us dropped in for an overnight stop with an Air Force plane while we were on our annual Cross Country Short Course pro- gram. Even during my last visit to Las Vegas, which was on the 1962 TWA Quickie Vacation, I was told that Las Vegas did not need an NPPA convention and that there was no hope that we could ever be given the kind of assistance we need to make a convention possible in any city or resort area. Because of this past history, I could scarcely believe it when I was told on arriving at Jackson that Mr. Clyde Anderson and Sig Front were coming to make a personal pitch for the conven- tion for '64. Because of the mental conditioning I had received over the years, it truthfully never occurred to me to call you ?╟≤ President JIM BENNETT KLZ-TV 131 Speer Boulevard Denver 17, Colorado ?╟≤ Secretary LES SWENSON 102 Donaldson Drive Syracuse 9, N.
