SEPT* 12, 1967 THE LAS VEGAS STRIP IS STILL REVERBERATING TONIGHT WITH REPORTS OF FRANK SINATRA'S STORMEY FAREWELL AT THE SANDS HOTEL. A FAREWELL THAT WAS PUNCTUATED, ACCORDING TO WITNESSES WITH BROKEN GLASS, TORN OUT TELEPHONES, AND DISLODGED TEETH. THE BIZZARE PICTURE WAS FURTHER CONFUSED BY SOME REPORTS THAT ATTEMPTED TO CRAM THE ENTIRE SERIES OF INCIDENTS INTO ONE MORNING...ACTUALLY CHANNEL EIGHT NEWS HAS LEARNED FROM EYE WITNESSES AND PRINCIPALS...THE MUCH PUBLICIZED EVENT SURROUNDING SINATRA'S RATHER VIOLENT DEPARTURE PAYS, FROM THE SANDS OCCUPIED PORTIONS OF TWO^ ACCORDING TO EYE WITNESSES, EARLY SATURDAY MORNING SINATRA BECAME ANGRY WHEN THE HOTEL CUT OFF HIS GAMBLING CREDIT DURING THE WEEKEND. HE REPORTEDLY BECAME ABUSIVE TO EMPLOYEES AND HURLED A HANDFUL OF CHIPS AT A SANDS EXECUTIVE AND DUMPED A GLASS OF ICE CUBES AND LIQUOR ON A CRAP TABLE. HE THEN DEPARTED WITH A GROUP OF FRIENDS ONLY TO RETURN ABOUT TEN THIRTY THE SAME MORNING...GOT INTO AN ELECTRIC BAGGAGE CART AT THE FRONT OF THE HOTEL AND RAN IT INTO A LARGE SAND FILLED CIGARETTE RECEPTACLE...THE RECEPTACLE TOPPLED THROUGH A GLASS DOOR LEADING INTO THE CASINO...NO ONE WAS INJURED. SINATRA THEN REPORTEDLY WENT TO HIS SUITE AND ATTEMPTED TO CALL SANDS VICE PRESIDENT CARL COHEN BUT WAS UNABLE TO REACH HIM, AFTER WHICH THE SINGER ALLEGEDLY TORE THE PHONE FROM THE JUNCTION BOX AND LEFT FOR HIS HOME IN BEL AIR, CALIFORNIA, SAYING HE WAS THROUGH WITH^HE SANDS... YESTERDAY MORNING, ACCORDING TO THE EYEWITNESSES SINATRA RETURNED TO LAS VEGAS AND THE SANDS... v
