When it came out in 1981 it was a$10 million show, but show today would cost million, f t Joel Fischman executive producer ?╟úChange is difficult sometimes, but change is for the good.?╟Ñ The new opener has reenergized a cast that features 10 singing and dancing principals, 74 dancers and showgirls, plus three specialty acts that pushes the cast count to more than 100. The biggest cast in Las Vegas now looks out onto a revamped 1,035-seat showroom where dif- Fischman says the philosophy behind the fresh opening centered on keeping the show?╟╓s original focus while accenting the talents of the cast. ?╟úThe kids are good dancers, so let them dance while keeping within the theme,?╟Ñ he says. ?╟úAlso, we said, Tou gotta make it timeless and still keep it entertaining/ From 3 overhaul. A tribute to Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers was added as a new finale in 1995 but, in both cases, the essence of the show remains. The big-scale production still includes the campy ?╟úSamson and Delilah?╟Ñ demolition number and the nightly sinking of the Titanic, the latter scene replete with cascading water and pyrotechnics as the ocean liner sinks to its watery grave. chman and company considered a new opening and finale as crucial to the show?╟╓s long-term survival. ?╟úI looked at it like a sandwich with those numbers being the meat,?╟Ñ Fischman says. ?╟úI didn?╟╓t want to mess around with the meat, but I wanted to try and change the bread. It was dry and stale.?╟Ñ I Some of the trimmings that went out with the former opening and finale were a flickering look at silent movies, miniature biplanes that ?╟úflew?╟Ñ above the audience, a Golddiggers number and a Vienna waltz scene. Changes are in the works for both of those segments, yet Fis- ferent hues of red signify seating sections that are scaled in price to increase customer value. Hot red-orange seats in the back of the house fetch $49.50 with purple-toned middle-section seats priced at $55. The burgundy section costs $66 per person for up-close seating on swivel seats in the pit area that also includes drink service. Others are welcome to bring their drinks with them. ?╟úLike no smoking in showrooms, this is what audiences want,?╟Ñ says Fischman of the newly installed seats that face forward as opposed to sideways with tables in between. Showrooms were built this way to accommodate dinner shows, which have all but passed from the scene. For all the recent changes, Fischman says ?╟úJubilee!?╟Ñ will remain a work in progress. ?╟úWe still have work to do,?╟Ñ he says of the upcoming alterations to the Titanic and Samson segments. Yet he can?╟╓t help but sound satisfied about the latest round of changes geared at taking ?╟úJubilee?╟Ñ well into the next century. ?╟úIt?╟╓s been pretty remarkable to get this done on time and on budget. When it came out in 1981 it was a $10 million show, but to do this show today would cost you at least $35 million. ?╟úWe?╟╓re not saying we?╟╓re more sexy or anything like that,?╟Ñ he continues. ?╟úWe?╟╓re just saying we?╟╓re better ... nothing else.?╟Ñ "BRIUANT!"
