L&et year we were able to get through the worst period by an appeal to the people through newspaper advertising and by keeping the publio advised of the exact status of the water supply. In fact, quite a number called at the office end assured ue oftheir sincere cooperation in conserving the supply, but pointed fact that at times it became discouraging after they had put forth their best efforts, to look over into their neighbor’s yard and see water running to waste. It 1® for this purpose that the ordinance is mostly needed, as the majority of our cltisens appreciate the fact that water is a prime essential and know mat when they help to conserve it, they are benefiting themselves as much as anyone else. We mall be glad to assist you in any way we can In drawing up such m ordin-anoe, and reapeotfully euggeat oan^.ration of «i» lowing restrictions which are in effect at Reno Sparks* * (a) The customer shall maintain all fixtures in good operating condition to prevent the waste of water through leaky fixtures and shall not permit water to flow continuously through any fixture. (b) The customer, in sprinkling lawns or gardens, shall use a spray nozzle (c) water shall not be peofr mitted* 2t*o* **f l_ow from aQnMyV customer’s premises either into the gutter, street or adjoining lot.* These restrictions would not work a hardship on any individual, but would in general cause J1® water to be put to a beneficial use. During a period of June 1935, actual measurements by the master meter indicated a consumption of 472 gallons per person per day, based on a population of 8,000 (as detailed in my letter to under date of June 20th, 1935) | statistics representative cities throughout the country s h o w that o w per capita consumption is about three times that of the average. Earnestly a eking your cooperation, I am Respectfully yours, WALTER Ft. BRACKED Vies President.
