Vegas, as its familiars know it, pays the most money, and the va- cationland atmosphqre generated out there in the desert makes an engagement seem like a lark. The Sahara was the first to open, last Fall, and then The Sands made its bow shortly before Christmas. As the nation's newest resort palace, The Sanctis a $5,500,000 property covering 18 acres of what was desert a little more than a year ago. I^'I^V; Jake Freedman, a quiet little man who has one of those fantastic Texas (Houston) backgrounds, was the leading spirit in its creation and runs it in co-operation With Jack Entratter. m Entratter Right At Home Anyone who has been around thernight life of New York will feel right at home as soon as he steps into The Sands and spots the considerable bulk of Entratter. He sticks out in The Sands the way The Sands sticks out in the desert. Jack was the host and part owner of New York Copacabana night club for more than a decade. Some of the stars he is hiring now for the Vegas operation at stratospheric salaries are performers, he helped boost up the ladder in'the early days at the Copa. Probably on the theory that Jack wouldn't be completely happy without the Copa name somewhere around The Sands, Freedman permitted the hotel's main theater- restaurant to be called the Copa Room.
