IIFllfMIIWMHIli LAS VEGAS, NEVADA 89109, 702 ?╟≤ 735*91 1 1 EXECUTIVE OFFICE December 10, 1975 TO: ALL DEPARTMENT HEADS FROM: RICHARD G. DANNER This will confirm our conversations at the Staff Meeting of Wednesday, December 10, relative to the future of the Sands Hotel0 As announced at the meeting, Merle Coombs, in addition to his present position and duties, will be assigned the job of Budget Director?? In this capacity, he will immediately review all expense figures, department by department, for the period 1975-74-73-72. He will be particularly concerned with those expenses which have shown a steady and substantial increase through the past years. Armed with these figures, we can then begin conferences designed to isolate those areas wherein we can make cutbacks. It is in this area that we must make up our minds that nothing is sacred here any longer. By this I mean that we are going to have to find areas that we can cut back, regardless of who it might affect, until we can get our house back in order. When I say nothing is sacred, I mean that we will review the junket program, the special promotion program, including golf tournaments, Festividad, Anniversary Parties, and New Yearfse Comps will have to be drastically reduced, which means we must review these expenses, as well as our policies, to get this very burdensome expense back to normal. Merle will review our 1976 forecast and if it develops that our revenue estimates are too high and unrealistic, we will have to cut them back, but in so doing, we will have to make a commensurate reduction in expenses so that our forecasted budget for the year will remain at the same level0 In reviewing the forecast, we will have to keep in mind that if the comps are substantially cut, so too will the revenue be cut in rooms, food and beverage, and commensurate adjustments will have to be made there* Your must not wait until you are called in for review of your expenses after the study has been made, but you should immediately set about identifying those areas where cuts can be made0 cA ^lace in the <Su/2
