    TRAVEL TRADE NEW YORK, N.Y MONTHLY 5,815 JUL- 1965 Hotel & Resort Wews Information Offices Welcome Visitors to France A network of offices known as Accueil de France (France's Welcome), linked to each other by teletype, specializes in obtaining last-minute hotel reservations as part of the new "Welcome and Hospitality" campaign in France. Addresses of the offices can be obtained from the French Government Tourist Offices in the U. S. Arriving at any Welcome Office, the traveler tells one of the trained hostesses what he's looking for?╟÷price, type of accommodation and any other specification ?╟÷and the work is done for him in minutes, at no charge, even when it involves teletype messages to other parts of the country. Travel agents are safeguarded by the stipulation that accommodations cannot be reserved through Accueil de France in advance, and must be made in person. When reservations are made for another area, the tourist must arrive there not later than the following evening. New Guide Edition Lists Japan's Hotel Facilities The 1965 edition of the Japan Hotel Guide is now available free of charge from Japan National Tourist Organization offices throughout the U. S. and Canada. The 165-page booklet carries information on 159 western-style hotels in Japan, over 50 of which are in the larger cities and have convention facilities capable of accommodating international groups, with capacities ranging from 100 to 2,500 delegates. Individual pages are devoted to each hotel. OJf special interest is a new two-page section at the back of the book listing the convention facilities of major hotels and types of equipment. Mont Blanc Tunnel to Open July 20 The tunnel through Mont Blanc, connecting Italy's Aosta Valley with Chamonix in France, will open to auto traffic July 20. The facility's excellent ventillation system will permit motorists to keep their windows open during the whole of the ride under Europe's second tallest mountain and through its longest tunnel. Emergency stations equipped with telephones have been installed at 300-meter intervals for drivers in difficulty. Sands Construction Ahead of Schedule The $9-million building expansion of the Sands Hotel at Las Vegas is running ahead of schedule. Included in the project is relocation of two existing buildings to provide a new recreation and pool area and the addition of convention facilities. Main feature of the building program is the Sands Tower, a 17-story circular structure connected completely into the hotel facilities. IHC to Manage New Pago Pago Hotel A management contract for the new 101-room hotel in Pago Pago, American Samoa, has been signed by the American Samoa Development Corp., which owns the hotel, with Intercontinental Hotels Corp. The hotel is scheduled for a Sept. 1 opening.
