Mr.J.Ross Clark, #2. c Los Angeles, Cal., April 6, 1911. Rile 599. If, when the town of Las Vegas incorporates, a by-law should be passed to compel property owners to have sidewalks built, the corporation would probably levy an assessment sufficient to build all walks at present required and have them constructed under contract. As such a job would be quite a large one it could probably be contracted for at a considerably lower price per square foot than we could do the small amount which would be required in front of the employes' cottages. A much cheaper walk could be made with heavy crude petroleum oil such as the Las Vegas streets were treated with. Of course it would not be nearly so lasting as concrete but it would probably endure for ten or fifteen years with occasional repairs. Such a walk could be built for about five cents a square foot, or about one-quarter the cost of a concrete walk. Yours truly, CO. Mr.W.H.Bancroft, First Vice-President. Mr. H. I. Bettis, Auditor.
