I agree.4 Musial - Goldberg 2-2?╟÷2-2 Pew baseball players, if any, have been accorded as many honors by his colleagues and the sporting public as had Musial. He has earned the praise of the baseball faithful from the White House to the bleachers. No other player,.though, in any sport, has earned the appellation of "The Man," which seems to sum it up. Baseball is played from April to October, but Stan Musial is truly, a Man for all seasons. Marshall Goldberg, playing under the legendary John B. "Jock" Sutherland at Pitt, earned All-America honors in 1937 and ?╟ 38. Pittsburgh had outstanding teams all three years Goldberg was there. In 1936, the Rose Bowl team that whipped Washington at Pasadena, 21-0, had an 8-1-1 record, shutting out six opponents, playing in the Rose Bowl Jan, 1, 1937. The *37 Panthers were 9-0-1, again shutting out six teams. In 1938, Pitt was 8-2. For Goldberg's three varsity years, the team compiled a 25-3-2 record. Goldberg moved on to the Chicago Cardinals for a total of eight years in the pros, establishing records for total yards gained, most attempts rushing, and most passes intercepted. He was among the top ten rushers in the NFL for three years, and a member of the NFL World Championship team of 1947, The Sportsmen's World Awards are sponsored by the Sportsmen's Club for the City of Hope National Medical Center, which benefits from proceeds of the presentations. The City of Hope is a free, nonsectarian medical and research facility, specializing in patient care, research and education in the catastrophic diseases of cancer, leukemia, and maladies of the heart, blood, chest and heredity. # #.#
