Mrs Sadie B.George Los Angeles,Gal. A t .Thomas,Nevada Feh.4th,1926 ©ear Madam Herewith i inclose a letter from Mr Green, which contains the latest information I have from them. You will note it does not mention mone# at all, Neither has the bank sent forward a credit slip for the money, therefore 1 asume they have not paid it. Possibley, however, they may be takeing advantage of the five days of grace they are allowed under the lease. His reference to magnesite papers means some I sent him,one the Governemts report on the magnesite, showing the analysis of it, and the other, was a report from the U.S.Mining ^eaureau, describing the process by which one concern in the east makes the metallic magnesium , It provides for cooking 500 lbs of with 2,500 lbs of magnesite, the result met el • I sent it to Gj»een so that ,if he met any opposition to handldgv the salt pn account ,or because of Boulder Dam, he could show that by Government reports the value is already fixed on the salt a*d will Lave to be paid for, whether or not any of it is moved to L.A. ihought it might help some, but the facts are, that no metal can be produced from our magnesite by that process or any other f have been able to finde. On account of the combined silica and'lime in our product»and which to date, there is no process for removing on a commercial bacis, And therefore the value of the salt is not fixed without movment to market, excepting to a very limited extent. x also inclose you herewith two pages of a letter received by me from a gentleman who has been negotiating- for the salt for some time, not the one I had in minde as an alternate to sell to in case the present lessees fell down on the job, but another one. The report from Phalen,on behalf of the Government, which he quotes has been made since the salt was examined by the Government Geologist , Therefore you can see what we are up against when values are placed o n the sajt,if we do not get it moving. 1 know his quotation is corrent because have known of the bulletin for some time, and am now sending to the Minining Beaurea for a copy of it.Keep both unfill you come out,or untill I come down, which may be in a very few days if the lessees have not and do not pay in themoney. Have had no further word from Neel, and do not know whether or not you,or he,or both of you are comming out this week,or next. If the money is not paid, I think it might be better for me to go dowitff than for you two to come out, because we could be in touch with the lessees^ and decide more fulley what to do. It is my opinion, that if there seems any reasonable chance for them to^fthe thing going, and it is necessary for us to grant them an extension of time for a payment to have them do it, it might be better to do so. For it would bring ever so much more under that heading, than to sell to the party I am encouraging, just enough to keep from loosing, in case we should eventualley deside to sell, assuming,of course, that the lessees ocant get going. But 1 think now, that; they very prohahley will. f Of course,if the parties they are expecting to get the money ftanm are just spoofing them,to keep them from going elsewhere, with the i ntntion of throwin them down at the last moment, it will he difficult for them to do anything, and that is why,in my opinion,if the money is not paid in,we will have to finde <out pritty definitley whee they are at,before granting an extension. Will not all this seem rediculous if it develops they have ,or do pay the money within the five days. > not I wish,as an accomodation to me, that if they haveAand do not,pay that you will in talking to ^r Neel about it, assume an air of being against granting them an extension, and that you will intimate to him as broadley as you can, without falsifying, that it probabLey will be better to cut them off entirley and sell fcfee property outright to a party j have waiting to purchase. I am asking this, not that I have decided that it would be best for us to do any thing of the kinde, for it will mean ever so much more if these/ lessees c a n go on,eaven with a little help , But I am asking you to ta&e that attitude for the reason that 1 want the Dr.and his crowd , to seemingley be up against a proposition of going it by themselves, that is handling it not in connection with the Salvation,or I might better say, handling it without both properties being in the hands of one party. It might later on be of very considerable benif&t to us,if we now develop what seems to be their attitude, under the situation I am setting up as a supp&Ltitioud case. Unless you have some sound reason for not takeing that course,Mrs George, 1 wish yo would take it for a little while ,or untill we see how it seems to affect them. It is still my real opinion, that we have the very best adjustnent possible with things as they are, providing the lessees can get going, and the proposition I make is ,as I say, simpley to develop what their attitude will be. It might be worth something to us later, for we cannot tell yet what direction things may take. You can see from jtf/ethe quotation from the Govt. Report, that if we are shut out by powers that be,that we are in a mighty bad shape for getting much out of the property, when it is condemned. Unles,in the mean time we can get hold of a process with which we can use the salt on the magnesite. I will show you some Government reports on the Magnesite phat are terribley discouraging, when x see you. Before 1 forget. x must tell you that Mr Hoag from Omaha, the eastern industrial agent of the Union Pacific Railroad,is here this morning,to look over the salt, and has consented to go to the magnesite • p dont know just why he is here, but some how f am glad that he is. It might be that he has been sent here to ret a check on what has been represented from the ^os Angeles, Office, I hope so, You can bet I am not going to miss any chance he gives me, to get the ris:ht datta over to him If the payment is not made. And if ,also, the lessees are not coraming out immediatley xt is my opinion, that it will be better for us to take care of incidentals,at Saturdays meeting, and for me to run down. Please communicate that to £r Neel ,and See if 4* is not M S opinion>and he cone writes in it, immediatley write me to that effect, or wire me,and x will leave here Monday next*possihley will stay in Vegas one night, hut would he in L.A. Tuseday or Wensday morning. Must hurrey if I get this in the mail. Very truly yours Levi W.Syphus
