PHONE 521 OSHf* 30X61 L. E. THOMPSON Oi^* v 510 SO. FOREMAN VINITA, OKLAHOMA Jan. 20, 1956 Mr. A1 Freeman, Sands Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada. Dear Sir: I have just read an interesting article in the Tulsa Tribune about your place that was written by Roger Devlin. He has created a desire to see your city and 1 am going to make a special effort to try and manage to do within the coming year. This letter though is prompted by one remark he made about the thousands of decks of playing cards you have to discard. We have a large hospital here at Vinita,Okla. for the mentally ill, however there are many others confined there too for the simple reason that there is no other place to send them, such as the aged without relatives or homes. If my recollection is correct there are between 600 and 700 men, and between 1900 and 2000 women confined there, and a large percent of them play cards. Some with cards that are so worn and beaten you can hardly tell one from the other. The state does not furnish play- ing cards and there is an almost constant drive on ?çaround here to buy cards for the hospital. If you have .no use for these discarded decks of cards, and it is'nt '^asking too much, we would appreciate it if you waul,lj send a box of them now and then to Dr. Moody_Nicholson, ^Chaplain, Eastern Oklahoma State Hospital, Vinita7 ~ Thanking you in advance for anything you night iff Slfli JliSplI tllBffSW a year, I LT P
