ReviewJoumal.com - News - 'Folies' to end a 49-year LV run#postComment Page 3 of4 Why so sad for the Folies? I'm sure another casino in town will pick this show up. Jerry's girl wrote on January 16, 2009 08:37 AM: Such fleeting mention of Jerry Jackson, who kept Folies alive with little or no budget for years. Revamping costumes, writing music and restaging numbers (If Ari restaged the cancan I'll eat my tights. The energy and talent of Mr. Jackson should be hand-in-hand with the show itself. It's magic, humor and longevity were due almost singularly to Jerry?╟╓s influence. Bravo Jerry Jackson! I used to work at the trop wrote on January 16, 2009 08:18 AM: There is only one person still working at the trop that was there when the folies opened, Rudy Spinosa- He has worked there for over 50 years. He Is such a funny guy and can tell the best stories about the "tiffany of the Strip" Rudy Spinosa is a Las Vegas Legend! To the new owners, use this man as the best you can to keep a little of old vegas alive at the trop! I worked at the trop for over 10 years and will be sad to see the folies go. casinocon wrote on January 16, 2009 07:25 AM: Wow! Pretty sad . . . another blow for vintage Vegas. I'll have to see it before it is gone. Temujin --1 like the visual of Budweiser Clydesdales, after such grace onstage I can see and hear the clopping off of dancers downstairs after the show. Michelle wrote on January 16, 2009 06:52 AM: I wasn't in this show myself but I had alot of friends who were/are. I will miss it. Another part of wonderful Las Vegas history to be replaced with yet another crappy Cirque show. ...Temujin...Khan..of..the..Yakka..Mongols... wrote on January 16, 2009 05:35 AM: ...As an occasional fill-in stagehand a decade ago, I used to cherish the closing minutes, when the dancers filled the stairway during the final scene. ...The music would finish in a crescendo and the top row of dancers reached back and began to unzip their bustiers from behind. There was one beauty that would turn and notice my beady eyes staring at her and gave me a million dollar smile.. ...Never during the pre show set ups or between shows in the employee dining room did i recognize her beautiful face. ...Too busy was I, during the show, doing my cues to search the cast for this lovely lady. ...It was only in those final fleeting seconds that I caught that beauty and her welcome smile, for whence the final curtain closed a mad rush began as dancers male and female clopped down the stairs like Budweiser's Clydesdale's to their dressing rooms. ...My duties as a stagehand required us to restore the scenery to it's presets for the next days show. A furious three or four minutes and the nights job was done. ...Not a sign of the dancers.! Out the door went the house crew. ...This was not a stage crew that went to have a nightcap or word or two of conversation. ...Alone was I as I walked to the Parking Lot for a drive to The Crazy Horse for a Glenlivet to cap a moneymaking day. ...Yes, I am in the Autumn of my years and I shall remember "Enter the Night" and Aki "The Showgirl of the Twenty first Century, who never stepped on the stage in the Twenty First Century, ...I shall remember the Follies at the Trop and that beauty who used to smile at me and as the big sleep advances on me I shall always ask myself..??? "Who was that Lady"..?? Don't kill the messenger: wrote on January 16, 2009 04:05 AM: Even money, the Trop will close by July 1, 2009. RIP. Post it. I'm so happy wrote on January 16, 2009 02:51 AM: I will miss the sign. When they blow that dump up (down), it will be another great day for the boulevard.
