Total marketing has become our by- word. And public relations is part of it.?╟Ñ . | Duncan described total marketing as an effort built upon the premise that the customer must be served with what he wants, the way he wants it, at a price consistent with good busi- ness practice. Panel Discussions Attract Interest Panel and group discussion sessions at the DCA meeting attracted keen in- terest as in past years. On Monday, delegates were assigned to several groups of about 20 to 30 each and each group was given a printed list of *some 37 suggested questions for dis- cussion. What the utility can do to help the contractor and reduce costs for both, was a question that drew much atten- tion. Proper scheduling of work was suggested, but a gas company repre- sentative said this was often difficult to do because of the uncertainties of new home building, which was a big factor. Having materials ready when needed -was another suggestion. It was pointed out that a successful dis- tribution contractor must adapt him- self to the needs of the utilities he serves, and have labor and equipment reserves , to handle peak construction period^. Some contractors said that poor in- spection personnel by utilities was a problem, with college students dr re-v ?╟╓ tired men with little knowledge -of pipelining sometimes employed. A gas company;, man present admitted tnis. was a problem that should be solved. ---> DCA CONVENTION PHOTOS ?╟÷ Top row left is Joe Chapman, CRC-Crose; Don Miller, Miller Pipeline Co.; Armon Bost, Midcontinent Equipment; and Oliver Klinger, Jr., Pipeline Construc- tion magazine.
