* * (3) fall off of the Hotel and other sets for a realistic look. It was a little too realistic! There originally was a "Balloon Drop" that rose from the deck as the first part of Circus began, but numerous problems and damage to the drop made it a necessity to strike it from the Show. The big "Clown Band" that is used during the first part of Circus, originally had a "live" band on top. Members of the stage crew used to pretend they were musicians and bounce around to the music. * The (2) large mirrored Elephants that rise with the Calliope during Circus used to have live girls on their backs . These changes along with numerous other changes and improvements have molded the Show into the magnificent success that it is today. On May 8th, 1985, we saw the biggest change in the Show since its origin. A Star policy was introduced and our first Star, Carol Channing, was added to the Show. Carol was with the Show for the remainder of the summer and did 226 Shows, closing on September 14th, 1985. The following Spring saw another big event, as MGM sold their Hotels in Las Vegas and Reno. On April 25th, 1986, Bally took over and after 5,529 Shows with MGM, we officially became Bally's Grand Hotel. On May 29th, Suzanne Somers started in the Show and stayed with us until July 6th when she had to leave for other engagements. The McGuire Sisters appeared in 84 Shows from July 7th to August 17th. Suzanne returned on August 21st to finish her engagement which lasted for 173 Shows until her last Show on Oct. 21st Altogether, we had a Star in the Show for a total of 483 Shows and we were very lucky to have such charming ladies appear on our stage, BAND Many people are unaware that there is a 17-piece Band under the Stage in the Band Room. This excellent group of musicians may go unnoticed, but not unheard, as compliments are constantly paid to their outstanding contribution to the Show. Under the direction of Wally Post, the Band has exemplified the utmost of versatility during the past 6,000 Shows. * Being under the stage, the Band uses monitors to follow the Show. Headsets are also used to follow the taped sound track. * Approximately one-third of the Band were part of the original Band in 1978. * The Band plays a total of 102 minutes each Show....to play continuous for 6,000 Shows, would be equivalent to playing for 425 days of continuous music.
