IZvaporative-^Gupe Gaolers Ofre GZconomical to install A simple and effective means for keeping one’s home and place of business cool and livable during the summer months in regions where humidity conditions are relatively low, is provided for by evaporative-type coolers. Evaporative-type coolers can be easily and economically constructed. As can be seen from the sketch at the right, it is simple to build—all material and parts can be bought locally at low costs. The usual method of construction of this type of cooler is to build a window box with an excelsior or fiber mat approximately two to three inches thick, placed in a vertical position with provision at the top for dripping water through the pad. Cooling is produced by drawing large volumes of air over the moist mat, thus providing active circulation of cool air through the store or home. In order to obtain proper cooling it is necessary to circulate a sufficiently large volume of air to provide a complete change of air every two or three minutes. Below is given several helpful hints for building your own cooler and for properly operating it. On the reverse side is shown several sketches illustrating the details of construction of a simple cooler. Dimensions, as far as they concern the fan unit are given in the table on page two.
