I agree.January 26, 2000 Mr. Jean Pierre Masseret, Secretary of State Ministere Des Anciens Combattants 37 Rue de Belle Chasse 75007, Paris, France Dear Mr. Masseret, My cousin, Maurice Halfon Behar, was born in Biarritz on August 27, 1938 and lived with his parents, Isaac and Fortune Halfon, at 4 Rue Gambetta, Bayonne until they were deported to Auschwitz on January 20, 1944 He then stayed with the landlady (a hidden child?) for 4 years until he was sent to the United States to live with me and my parents when he was eight years old in March, 1947. (Maurice?s mother, Fortune, was my mother?s sister and my parents formally adopted Maurice at a later date.) My mother had another sister (Marie Bally married to David Bally with one child, Rachel-Nelly) who also lived in Bayonne. The Bally?s were also deported to Auschwitz where Marie and her child Rachel were killed. Her husband, David survived and was liberated. He died a few years ago. I am enclosing the few records we have: The ?Abtransport? for January 20, 1944. The Halfons were in convoy #66. A photograph of Isaac and Fortune Halfon A photograph of Maurice in 1942 A paper from the French consulate in New York, 1962 Certificates sent to Turkish Consulate about the deportation from Drancy. A photograph of Isaac Halfon and his brother-in-law David Bally in the French Army? August 3, 1940. My cousin (now brother) is almost 62 years old. had a slight stroke and suffers from hypertension. We are anxious that he receive some compensation after all these years. I can supply copies of many more photographs of this family if that would be helpful. Please tell us how to proceed with this claim. Sincerely, Gloria Behar Gottsegen Tel 561/487-0980 FAX 954/733-1685 Email GGOTTSEGEN@aol.com
