Respectful-respective trophies, left to right: Sands sweepstake; Governor's Trophy (donated vby Southern Nevada Power Co.); Flamingo theme trophy; Pioneer Trophy and Wild Cat Band trophy. ^^ You couldn't see the speakers for the trophies yesterday at the Chamber of Commerce - Elks Club Helldorado awards luncheon. And the glistening beauties, some 65 at a hurried count, were soon being passed along to their rightful recipients as name after name was called by Otis Wright, Elks grand exalted ruler. Some of the winners made two trips for prizes as representatives of organizations holding double wins. Among these, Jake Freed? man of the Sands who said "it's the biggest winning I've made.", Helldorado director Eddie Gil- breath presented the trophies, assisted by Austin Bowler, club sec- 1 retary. Chamber- president, Ed Converse, had introduced Gilbreath who said "we feel both humble and grateful at this conclusion of another Helldorado year.... humble?╟÷that we've had a small part in this Southern Nevada event ... grateful for all the help we've had." Gilbreath also added a note about the popularity the badger fight had received and stated that transcripts of Lowell Thomas' radio dissertation on the old Nevada custom were being mailed to those throughout the nation who objected so strenuously. He said that replies were being received from many of these peoples, in an apologetic vein. "Truly everyone was a winner," Gilbreath stressed as he I turned to the award presenta-l tions. . Wright avowed that at feagjt I three, men should get^tstanding-1 credit with the sucs|ss of the-1 Helldorado: Eddie Gflbreath, All Proctor and Jim CaJ|man.
