iter 2?V hight, TENDER |HING AT LAND OP, jnirtg jsh" dent 1 f tie Jsnd Last MglU By fARL WILSON Loser Makes G@??d...?? . Can a columnist write about a girl who doesn't say anything sensational or naughty '..'. . just because she's beautiful... and charming .'.-. and you like her? Well, now take Eileen O'Neill, the blue-eyed brunette who plays "Sgt. Ames" the plain clothes gal on ABC's "Burke's Law." She was just so stunningly pretty when I met her in a photo studio that I sort of gaped at her. "You were one of the losers in the 'Miss Rheingold' contest, weren't you?" I finally blurted out. There was a man, there with her to field idiotic questions like that from guys who get confused due to her beauty. "WE PREFER TO THINK of it as that she was one of the 'finalists,! instead of one of the losers," he said, stiffly. Miss O'Neill, who had a tiny Yorkshire terrier named Lamb- chops with her, was busy with the dog. Since she's a policewoman, on.TV, it would hardly look nice for her to get arrested for smuggling a dog on a plane and she explained the problem of transporting Lambchops fflLW&N ~..Yoo-7w<?·sergeant/ between NY and LA where she lives. "Tne airline said I could ship him at 58c a pound, so I figured at 4 pounds that would be cheap ?╟÷only $2.32,". she said. # * # "BUT THEN THEY SAID, 'Do you have a box?' I didn't have. They got me a box which cost me $10. Then I had to ship the box, too, and it weighed 20 pounds, and that cost a lot more than shipping the dog. It came to $23.92." "Couldn't you hide him down in your blouse like June Havoc does with her Chihuahua?" I asked. "Ahem ahem," said the man fielding the idiotic questions. "1 think he's too big and I'dget caught, and that wouldn't be be a very good image for me," Miss O'Neill said. "Oh, I think the photographers at the airport would like the image very much," I said. "Ahem ahem," the man said. j MISS O'NEILL said there are plenty of jokes already such as "Where do you hide your badge, Officer?" and "I'd love to be handcuffed with you, Baby," and we'd better cool it. She's the daughter of a Philadelphia bus driver, an upcoming picture star, a crack rifle shot, a gifted radio and TV interviewer herself ... and even if there's nothing naughty or sexy to write about her, I like her. And remember, she wasn't one of the losers . . . "We prefer to think of her as being a finalist." My goodness, be tactful, can't you? ' # * * .
