CBS TELEVISION A Division of Columbia Broadcasting System, Inc. 485 MADISON AVENUE, NEW YORK 22, NEW YORK ?╟≤ PLAZA 1-2345 LARKY LOWENSTEIN Director of Press Information, New York June 11, 1958 Mr. A1 Freeman Director of Publicity Sands Hotel, Las Vegas, Nev. Dear Mr. Freeman, Atta ched is the letter from the producer of "THIS IS NEW YORK," about which I spoke to you on the phone last week. I believe it is self- explanatory. To reca p: WCBS is, we think, the number one radio station in the land; it is the key station of the CBS Network; its sales are based on reaching million different listeners a week; its listening area includes, m addition to the Greater New York metropolitan area, half of New York State, Long Island, New Jersey, Connecticutt, and large parts of southern Massachusetts and eastern Pennsylvania. "THIS IS NEW YORK" is a top-rated, Peabody award-winning program aired every night in the week from 9j30-10:30 PM, New York Time. It has a good large loyal audience. I will be doing six broadcasts about my trip, and will be free - even encouraged - to talk about the Sands Hotel on three of them - before and after my trip and the broadcast we would do from your lobby. I have a lready spoken to the people at Disneyland and they are highly pleased with the arrangements. My family will have the run of the Park and we will, of course, stay at the Disneyland Hotel. In Jackson Hole, Wyoming, we will stay for two nights at the Jackson Lake Lodge. In Colorado Springs, at the Broadmoor. In Las Vegas, naturally, we would like to stay - and do the broadcast from - the Sands. Our itinerary calls for us to be in Las Vega s on Wednesday, July 16 and Thursday. July 17. I would like for myself, my wife and our three children, ages 14, 12, and 7, to be the guests of the Sands for those two days, if you think the results are worthwhile to you. I will, of course, be P6C6i.vi.11g no other recompense from the progrsm# In addition, I have a letter from my good friend Sey Chassler, editor of PAGEANT magazine asking for an article on my trip for publication next spring and containing many detailed suggestions. The theme of the article is to be that an ideal way to make such a tour is to take tent and sleeping bass and camp in parks and forests 2 out of 3 nights and then, the third nffht stay in one of the fine resort hotels such as the Sands, the Broadmoor, etc. Chassler likes it and it will probably run in April, 1959.
