81/83/1996 19:55 671-649-S221-6497262 PAGE 82 SandCastle Show EditionlOOO Here are some thoughts and concerns I have in regards to the new version of our show. In my opinion, the major challenges are in the areas of storage space, space in general and the lack of skilled labor to implement these new elements. These are issues that I think we can come together on and find creative, artistic and cost effective means to implement these new elements, ?╟≤ Opening I have timed the drawbridge and it takes 18.4 seconds for the drawbridge to come down. This time is with the drawbridge in it's lowest, just out of sight line position, if we want it to go slower we can start it higher. If we want it to go faster we will have to install a variable speed winch motor. I will get prices for the variable speed motors. ?╟≤ Swing Club Set, It seems to me that using the existing A stairs, rotating them and fitting a backing piece on them along with setting the drums, chair and tables will make for a rather involved preset and strike, Pm not sure how much of a look we could come up with taking into consideration the large amount of floor space the stair A unit will consume, What I would suggest is using one or two drops up stage, as mentioned in Jerry's rundown, one of which would have a cut out for the drum kit. We would use the drum kit on the forklift and lift the drummer to the appropriate height (2-4 feet?) in the cut out drop, giving the appearance that the drums are on a raiser or bandstand. In this configuration* we would not have to remove the drums from the lift or use a second drum kit. As far as using the #9 drape and portal for this scene, we will have to fit the existing piece with a traveler track for the drape, the drape and portal are on the same baton. The #9 drape h currently rigged as a tableau type drape and does not open wide enough to allow proper sight lines for playing up stage of it. Using the Tango minor as a ceiling piece will require a complete re-construction and re-rigging. It can be done but the Mylar will not hold up well in the horizontal position. It will need to be rigged in a fashion that will allow it to be flown in, in the vertical position,, then it will need to be tripped into the horizontal position, this type of element does pose a large challenge for lighting the scene. A possible alternative to the ceiling could be to use the existing chandelier in this scene. Given the somewhat one dimensional look of the drops, the chandelier might play well in the 40's silhouette motif and still add an overhead element to the set. Approaching the "Swing Set" in this way would make the change as simple as three flying elements setting the drum lift and setting tables and chairs.
