Eddie is responsible for booking Paul Gilbert into the Quarter as star of the cur-'' | rent' show?╟÷and this is the prize booking of 1958. | Gilbert, seen by this agent | first in Las Vegas some years 3 ago, is one of the funniest men | ever to grace the Latin Quarter j stage. If that statement seems a bit extravagant, just check | with the over-capacity audi-j ence that watched him work last night. Using fresh material] except | for his TV doctor skit which j never grows old, Paul revealed | himself to be a comedian who | can take over the flpor of a huge Broadway night club and hold the unswerving attention of his audience for nearly an hour. Of course, he?╟╓s not the whole show. There?╟╓s a little girl singer, Tina Robin, with a great big voice, who sometimes reminds you of a pint-sized Sophie Tucker. Tina has an extensive reper-toire and several singing styles. She does the old standards, registers well with some brand new material, proves adept at rock ?╟╓n?╟╓ roll. Actually, let?╟╓s say that she?╟╓s a most capable songstress who has a sure knowledge of what the public wants. And, even more important, knows how tb satisfy that want. When Risman?╟╓s current show, ?╟úInternational Holiday for j Love,?╟Ñ produced by DopgAr- den, opened some months ago, it was labeled in this and other corners as one of the finest night club revues of all time. A glance last night at its new edition proved the statement still was true. The dancing of Prancoise and Gizelle Szony; the amazingly dexterous acrobatics of the St. Leon troupe; the flamenco rhythms of Queti Clavijo and her group, Martha Er-rolle?╟╓s singing?╟÷all these, plus the beautiful chorines and show girls combine to form a two-and-ope^half hour show that is breath- taking.
