Hundreds of Jaycees will be involved in the production of the local Mss America preliminaries, according to Wesley Hooper, president of the organization. The 1957 Mss Houston Pageant is sponsored by the Jaycees and underwritten by Bill McDavid OldsmobUe, Inc. ??We have set a budget of $20,000.00 to guarantee the biggest beauty pageant in Texas'*, said Mr. Hooper* The committees and their chairmen include, Staging, Don Williams ] Entertainment, Buddy Brock] Awards, Jerry Lyons] Entries, Bob Burk and Dale Houghlandj Tickets, A1 Puujal and Glenn Hickey] Souvenir Book, Fred Barryj Judges, Bill Shead and Dick Gemmer] Ushers and Security, Tom Herrick] and Promotion, George Kendrick. A group of outstanding prizes is being lined up for the winner of the local pageant. In addition, Jaycees are negotiating to have one 0r the country's top entertainment stars emcee the affair. "When we talked to Mss Lenora Slaughter, executive director of the Mss America Pageant in Atlantic City," Mr. Hooper said, "she told us that ours will probably be one of the biggest pageants in the nation". The Houston and Miss America pageants will be quests for the most attractive and talented young ladies. If Mss Houston also becomes Mss Texas, she will go to Atlantic City in September to compete for the national title* -30
