Stoddard* nater situation here in Las Vegas is the vorst it has Lean in the past seventeen years* During the past ft* days the temperature has l e a around 112 - 11* degrees, and the lev was 87 Sunday night* the result has been that the consumers draw the water off faster than we ean produce it, with consequent low pressure# all over town and in some of the higher locations no water at all during the period of heavy demand* 1 set with the Mayor and City Commissioners, explained the gravity of the situation and asked for an emergency ordinance restricting the h o r n cf lawn sprink-ling, in addition to the pres mot ordinance prohibiting the waste of water* The 01 ty Attorney, who was present, expressed the opinion that the City did not have the authority to pass an ordinance governing the product of a privately owned utility, any acre than it could restrict the use of electricity furnished by the Power Company, but the Mayor and Commissioners agreed with me and issued a pufcLlo notice res trio ting the sprinkling of lawns during daylight hours, in the interest of public health and fire protection* fhis should give us a chance to recover our reserves sc we can provide sore equal distribution of pressures throughout the city during this emergency*
