April 30, 1971 From: A1 Freeman Subject: Notice of Special Event at the Sands, June 24-28, 1971 This year, the Sands will again be the locale for the City of Hope, Sportsmens World Awards banquet on Saturday, June 26, 1971. Approximately 800 people will be at the Sands for this weekend and rooming lists will be coming in shortly. The following points are salient: 1. 350 double rooms will be needed for guests between Thursday and Sunday. Generally, these rooms will be of the same type and price. 2. It is expected that about one-third of the rooms will be picked up between Thursday and Friday nights, and two-thirds on Saturday. 3. There will be a dinner for 800 guests in the Grand Ballroom on Saturday evening, June 26th. 4. A Copa Room dinner show for athletes, VIPs, entertainers, etc., will also be provided on Friday evening, June 25th. 7. The Sportsmens Club will be responsible for providing a live or video tape television show of the affair. Financial arrangements for the rooms and other production costs have been worked out by agreement and all costs are to be charged to a Master Account, to be called "Sportsmens Club". Contacts for the City of Hope are Dave Marmel and Irv Terry. Rooming arrangements are being handled by Ed Zike. Mechanical arrangements are being handled by Ralph Flack and Lou Ricca. Lighting and sound arrangements are being handled by Joe Mall. This promotion has turned out to be a good one for the Sands over the last three years, and your usual fine cooperation in dealing with these people will be appreciated.
