She and Chuck move from club to club, from gambling room to gambling room - betting, holding hands, and winning. The news of this lucky streak spreads like wildfire through Las Vegas. Everyone wants to be partners with them. Odd charac- ters start following them, betting'With them, so that by the time they reach their peak ?╟÷ at the New Frontier - they're totally sur* rounded by people. It's wrecking the club's business - there is no gambling going on at all, except at Chuck and Maria's table--- and at that table, unfortunately for the house - no one loses. During all this, something has been happening to Maria. She's never been out alone with a man in hep life ?╟÷maybe that's why she's falling in love with Chuck. Or maybe it's the excite- ment, or maybe it's the few drinks she downs -- her first. But whatever it is, it isn't doing her much good. Chuck has his mind on nothing but gambling. If he sees Maria at all, it's not as a girl ?╟÷ it's as a large walking rabbit's foot. He even calls her Bunny. As long as she feels it's only because he's engrossed in the gambling, Maria can take this. But when Kelly, an entertainer at the Silver Slipper, enters the picture and Chuck immediately forgets all about the gambling --.why, that's a horse of a differ- ent color.
