Mildred “Mickey” Wilner
Mildred “Mickey” (née Sandler) Wilner (1920 – 1989) was born in New York and was married to Leo Wilner. The Wilners moved from California to Las Vegas in the 1960s when Leo accepted the position to be the first Executive Director of Temple Beth Sholom. The couple instantly became beloved members of the Jewish community.
Mickey held closely to the belief that Jewish life began at home. Her family vividly recalls her being a living example of Jewish tradition for her children and grandchildren and that she faithfully prepared Shabbat dinner for them every Friday night.
In 1990, a year after her passing, Mickey’s devotion to the Temple Beth Sholom Sisterhood was honored in the annual Mickey Wilner Award (Woman of Valor Award). The honor also is awarded at Congregation Ner Tamid.
For over two decades, she was also a volunteer at Sunrise Hospital. She and Leo had two sons: Martin (of Las Vegas) and Robert (of California).
