Happy Hanukkah

Happy Hanukkah! It’s that time again to greet everyone with a smile and best wishes for the coming year.

Each year since 1991, Dorothy Eisenberg has brought the story of Hanukkah to the students at her namesake elementary school. Her memories sparkle with the joy of lighting the menorah, sometimes brining hundreds of latkes, and presenting a Dorothy Eisenberg Elementary School pencil for each student. This past year saw the passing of Dorothy’s husband Paul, with whom she moved to Las Vegas in 1964.

Dorothy has a legacy of community activism and leadership. She often describes herself as being from the last generation of fulltime volunteers. She was the first woman to serve as the president of the Jewish Federation (1979).  In 1996 she was elected to the Excellence in Education Hall of Fame and in 2014 she was honored by the Public Education Foundation Board. You can search for more about Dorothy within this website. She’s an inspiration and lit the path for other women in the Jewish community to roles of leadership and contribution to the entirety of Las Vegas.

This photo was taken by Aaron Mayes on Dorothy's annual Hanukkah visit to her school recently.
