3and as we want shingles or shakes to cover a house and some lumber as well as some few other things which we must have I think best to get him to bring a load backThose things can be obtained cheaper I think at Manvel then at Caliente besides at this time of the year the road down the Meadow Valley Wash is in bad condition for freighting. I hired a good white man but must pay him $35.00 per month there are two Indians to work at .35 cents per day Mr Holt is now getting $40.00/per month and as he does the cooking as well as many other things about the Ranch he is kept quite busy. There is nothing neglected except we will lose about two tons of apples on account of keeping them on hand so long they should have been sold two months agoI will not go further into details at this time but will get everything in the best condition possible for Dr Bracken to take hold of who I presume is a much better farmer than I amYours trulyWm McDermott
