Oct. 25, 1906 Dear Folkses:- I arrived in Goldfield last night about 2:00 and after running about for about two hours trying to find a room, I went and run John out of bed. He had been going to the Depot every day since Monday but failed to see me. I have not seen my trunk since it left Daleville. I have not tried to find it since arriving here as I had no place to put it until this evening. Found a room about two by twice that I have engaged and will go to tonight. Well I will try and tell you a little more about my trip and then give you some of the conditions as I found them in Goldfield. I was delayed in Chicago for about seven hours and run around there in the rain seeing as much of the city as possible. was delayed all along the line. It commenced snowing about six hours before we reached Denver. We reached Denver about 9 30 in the morning and went to a Hotel: When I say WE, I mean the man that traveled with me from Chicago until I branched off for Goldfield. We took a Car in Denver that was run for sight seeing. We covered the best part pf the city but the snow was falling so thick we could not see very far. Snow caused me to miss seeing Pikes Peak. Snow fell for two days and caused me to miss quite a lot of scenery but I got my moneys worth anyway. The worst part of my trip was here in Nevada. It was where I left the Southern Pacific and started for Goldfield. The dust was so thick in the car that I could hardly see the front end of the car. The train did not average more than 15 miles an hour on this road. Tell you I felt pretty blue this forenoon. I chased all over town and could not find a room at any price. I began to think it was 23 for me. John helped me get located tonight. My room will cost me $25.oo per month. There is no fire and it will be a freeze out. My board will cost me $35.00 per month at the best I can do. But let me tell you something. Above all this expense I believe I will be able to clear not less than $75.00 per month. I have a position in the best Office in the city. These people have certainly treated me O.K. So Far. They are two brothers and have all kind of Mines and Properties besides their Brokerage Business. If I can only keep my health I will certainly have a chance to make money. Condon left last night and I did not get to see him. I have seen all the other fellows from Parker. One of the Parker boys hasbeen sick ever since he landed here. Hasbeen getting better and is able to be out now.
