Biographical / Historical Note
The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) first recommended exploring the possibility of developing a medical school at UNLV in 2013. By November 2013 the NSHE Board of Regents approved a plan for public medical education in Nevada which included the development of a four-year allopathic medical school at UNLV. Barbara Atkinson, MD was hired in 2014 as the planning dean for the UNLV School of Medicine and the school was officially established on August 22, 2014. Property was acquired to build the school and faculty and staff hired between 2014 and 2015. The UNLV School of Medicine admitted its charter class of sixty students in July, 2017.

Materials were donated in 2017, accession number 2017-025.
Processing Note
The collection was minimally processed in 2018 at the time of accessioning by Tammi Kim. The materials were quickly reviewed to provide a general description of the contents of each box and an estimate of dates represented in the material. Materials were reboxed and a finding aid was created. No further work was performed on the materials.
