THE IMPORTANCE OF TIME AND LEADERSHIPWe are but minutes, little things,Each one furnished with sixty wingsWith which we fly on our unseen trackAnd not a one of us ever comes backWe are but minutes. Use us well,For how we are used we must someday tell;Who uses minutes has hours to use,Who loses minutes- whole years must lose(Anonymous)There is a tide in the affairs of men, Which taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;Omitted, all the voyage of their lifeIs bound in shallows and in miseries; And we must take the current when it serve, Or lose our ventures.(William Shakespeare- Julius Caesar)The Moving Finger writes and having writ,Moves on; nor all your Piety nor witShall lure it back to cancel half a line.Nor all your tears wash out a word of it.(Edward Fitzgerald- The Rubaiyat)For today is Life, the very Like of Life, in its brief course Lie all the varieties and realities of your existence, the bliss Of growth, the story of action, the splendor of beauty. For Yesterday is already a Dream, and Tomorrow is only a Vision; But Today well lived makes every Yesterday a dream of happiness, And every Tomorrow’s Vision a Hope.Look well, therefore to This Day. Such is the Salutation of the Dawn.(Look To This Day, The Sanskrit)Time is capital. Invest it wisely.(Anonymous)

Ont Day A4 y Soul Juit Opened Up.A4 a l< c /\ not k er ChoiceWhen you see that what you are doing, what you have chosen is not working, make another choice. When you discover that what you are thinking or feeling is not bringing forth the thoughts and feelings you desire, make another choice. Regardless of how much time you have spent, or how much energy you have expended doing whatever it is that you arc doing, if it is not working for you make another choice! Choosing docs not mean you abandon or give up. Choice is not synonymous with being fickle or spaced. Choice simply means that you recognize the conflict, chaos, or pain the first choice has created; you choose to eliminate that experience by making another choice. Was k Your Hands W li cn You Are Done!We see signs everywhere, every day, reminding us to wash our hands before we move on to the next experience, and we fail to recognize the spiritual import of the words. Elimination is a spiritual as well as a human experience. When you have eliminated, let go of, released something or someone from your life, wash your hands and move on! When something is over, it is over. There is no need to keep checking to sec if it or they are really gone. Flush! Wash your hands and move on. Avoid the human tendency to pick things up and inspect them, twisting and turning to discern what it is, why it is, how it is that you have come to this place at this time. Help is on the way! You will know what you need to know when you need to know it. For right now, tell the truth. It’s over! You are finished! It is time to let go! Eliminate! Now, wash your hands and move on to the next thing.lyANLA VANZANTK n o.w Tint You K nowSelf-doubt can easily become the cause of every missed step in life. Self- < doubt is the fungus that grows into the cancer of worthlessness and inadequacy. Self-doubt steals dreams, denies hope, and assassinates faith. Know that you know what you arc doing. When you do what feels right for you, know that you know it is right for you. When you want more than you have now and arc willing to do what it takes to get it, know that what you want „ ■: is right for you. Know that you arc always, at all times, under all situations connected to the aweso'rpe, powerful, creative source of life. Know that what God knows, you kn’ow. When you cannot figure out why you know what you know or what to do about what you know, know that you can ask for clarity, and know that clarity will come. Knowing that you know is what some people call faith, • ■Fear NotThere is no greater disservice we commit in this life than living within the grips and confines of fear. My friend and mentor Helen Hannon reminded me of this when she said, “You can’t lose!” No matter what happens, you cannot lose. If you let go of something or someone that has been divinely ordained for you, it.will come back when you are ready to receive it. If you let go of something or someone that has not been divinely ordained for you, you are making room for the Divine to take its place in your life. There is never a good reason to fear that you are wrong or that you are losing. God in you will not deny Itself. It will be fulfilled. It will be acknowl-. ■ edged. Fear only delays fulfillment. It cannot or docs not destroy it. Fear is the insidious activity of the belief that there is something that God cannot do or does not know. It is a covert admission that God cannot be trusted and that God s love is not enough to sustain you. Fear is how we act out our loyalty to family patterns that can eventually become the noose around ‘ our necks, that “hang us up” in life. Fear not! Realize that no matter what it is, no matter how you show up, no matter what you are experiencing, you cannot lose because help is.on the way.
in the MEANTIME ...IT’S ALL A PART OF THE DIVINE PLANThe meantime is not about waiting to find a relationship. It’s about building a better relationship with yourself. It is a process of self-reflection and self-awareness. It is a process within which you must work if you want to see results. You can find yourself to the meantime to any area of your life. When you do, the solution you need may be different, but the process for surviving it is always the same:1. Love yourself no matter what! Never let what is happening or the fear of what could happen rob you of your ability to love yourself. Realize that your meantime is bound to create confusion in your thinking. However, you must also realize that where you arc is exactly where you need to be. You are being guided back to love, to self-love.2. Feel what you feel and acknowledge that you are feeling it. Before you reach out to avoid the pain, reach in and feel it. Feel any hurt, pain, confusion, or weakness. Feel your vulnerability, and acknowledge that you feel vulnerable. Once you feel whatever it is that is going on inside you, let yourself know that it is perfectly okay to feel it. Do not judge yourself. Do not tell yourself you shouldn't. Feel it! Acknowledge it! Ride it out!3. Express what you feel verbally or in writing. You will discover that it is absolutely imperative to express your feelings in the meantime. You must tell someone what you feel. If you try to hold it in, it will choke you! When this happens, more likely than not what you are trying to hold in will spill out in a very inappropriate way, at the most inappropriate time. You can save yourself a great deal of stress, and possibly some embarrassment, simply by choosing how you want to express what you feel. Write it out! Talk to a friend! Call Dial a Prayer! But by all means, never try to ignore what you feel or act as if the feelings do not exist.' do?1to H yOU WMt- Wl,at do Y°" 10do. How do you want to fed? How can you create the expenence for yourself? What is it that you believe is beeping you from the experience? What are you willing ° do to have the most peacefill version of the 8 expenence that is possible? Yes, I know these are more queens, but they are questions you must ask if you want to get out and stay out of the meantime.Do not look for or expect anyone to make your meantime better or less painful. You need to spend ”7 "7 ^f-d gather up the little pieces that you have given away, if you bring another person «o the middie ofthe process as a means of distraction you could very well misdiagnose the cause of your ills. RETREAT MESSAGE
Dear Sorors,
As your 2001 Retreat Facilitator, it is my
pleasure this weekend to open the doors to
welcome both Leaders and future Leaders of
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
We have come together today to foster the
Legacy of Leadership. We all want the
bountiful rain, but not the thunder, the many
treasures of our oceans, but not it’s mighty
roar. Sorors, it takes time, effort, andj
commitment to become a leader. The time is
now. We cannot wait, lest the future pass us
by. We must be prepared !
This is the time for Theta Theta Omega
Chapter Sorors to step up to the podium and
share the greatness that is within them. We
know that serving Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority is an awesome journey, but one that
is always moving in a positive flow. This
Retreat will serve as a mini- preparation on
