Chapter Meeting
January 6, 2001
The meeting was called to order by Basileus Kaweeda Adams at 1:25 p.m. at Bob Miller Middle School. The Pledge was
recited and the hostesses were thanked.
OFFICER REPORTS
GRAMMATEUS - Motion by Soror Jacki to accept the December Chapter Meeting minutes as printed. Second by Soror
Lavonne. Motion carried.
TAMIOCHOUS - Soror Carolyn reported the following balances; Operating account Fundraising account -
and Community account - fJtfWKW A printed report for November and December was distributed. There was a
question about whether "income" and "miscellaneous" would be specified at some date and the answer was yes'. Soror
Carolyn also reported that check numbers would be added to the reports in the future. Motion by Soror Carolyn to file the
report for audit. An amended December report was distributed. The Budget and Executive Committees recommended that
sorors with two 'insufficient funds' checks may not be permitted to use checks for one year. They must use cashier’s checks,
money orders, or cash. Sorors were asked to put their names on checks from people purchasing Mardi Gras tickets.
PECUNIOUS GRAMMATEUS - Soror Marian reported thatwas collected at the December Chapter meeting and
at the December 13 Executive Committee meeting and then turned over to the Tamiochous for deposit.
EPISTOLE US - Soror Terri reported that items received were 1) thank you from Sunrise Children’s Hospital for the toy
donations, 2) invitation from the LV alumni chapter of Delta Sigma Theta to their Founders' Day luncheon, and 3) regrets from
Soror France Holland because she will not rejoin for 2001. Articles for inclusion in the next month's issue of the Tea Rose
Talk must be submitted at the Chapter Meeting.
HODEGOS - Soror Ethel welcomed visiting Soror Victoria Franklin, a Theta Theta Omega scholarship recipient, from lota Tau
at Arizona University. The Executive Committee meeting date, birthdays, and anniversaries were announced. Get well
wishes extended to Soror Annette after her surgery and sympathy extended to Soror Simone for the passing of her
grandfather. Secret Soror forms were completed. Soror Ethel read a passage she'd written about promoting sisterly
relations. The Thelma Tyree Award form was redewed. Past recipients were asked to stand.
GRADUATE ADVISOR - No report
IVY LEAF REPORTER - Soror Annette reported that twenty-three press releases were sent out on December 20 to advertise
the Mardi Gras Ball. She has spoken with Lillian McMorris and Sorors Lavonne, Willa, and Lynette will join Soror Annette on
the show on January 16th to talk about the Mardi Gras Ball. She invited sorors to look at the Public Relations Album after the
meeting. Soror Annette plans to submit pictures of the Mardi Gras King and Queen and an article featuring Soror Dorothy
Johnson to the next Ivy Leaf. She again requested sorors' contacts with other organizations.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
PROGRAM - Soror Billie reviewed the volunteer log forms and committee meeting schedule. Committee meetings will be held
on the fourth Wednesday of the month at the North Area Sendee Center. A sign-up sheet was circulated. Sorors were asked
to make corrections to the directory. A final copy will be distributed at the February meeting.
MEMBERSHIP - Soror Jackie Hall distributed profile sheets to be completed by all sorors. These will be printed in the
monthly newsletters. A committee meeting is scheduled for January 24 at 6:00 p.m. at the North Area Service Center.
WAYS AND MEANS - Soror Marian reported that the committee met on December 13. The ticket money tum-in date is
Saturday, January 20, 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Bob Miller Middle School. Ads and money are due Friday, January 12. The
band Exotique, same as last year, has a fee ofyg^pflp. A discussion was held about options. Sorors were encouraged to

SCHOLARSHIP - Soror Lisa McNeil reported that the committee will meet on January 24 at 5:00 p.m. at the North Area
Service Center.
STANDARDS - No report
CONNECTIONS - Soror Ouida reported that Kimba Smith's sentence has been commuted and she is at home with her
parents. Sorors were asked to write letters on her behave last year.
SPECIAL/AD-HOC COMMITTEES
NBUC - Soror Dorothy reported that the West Las Vegas Library has asked the NBLIC to adopt 100 children and 50 parents
to present monthly nutrition lectures. Soror Ouida has agreed to do this. A partnership has been established with the
Southern Nevada Cancer Research Center. A meeting has been scheduled to plan a program for Black History Month. Soror
Dorothy received a call from the President's Cancer Panel requesting recommendations for speakers for the regional meeting.
Soror Dorothy is being nominated for a Ford Foundation Grant of $100,000 over two years. She has also been invited to the
8th Annual Symposium on Minorities. Motion by Soror Dorothy to receive a $500.00 check for the April 23, 2001 health
program. Second by Soror Billie. Motion carried.
AKATEENS - Soror Belisa reported that a parent workshop is scheduled for Saturday, January 20th at 1:30 p.m. in the Bob
Miller Middle School library.
ARTS AND HUMANITIES - Soror Quin reported that the committee met on December 11. Activities for February, March, and
April were shared.
ECONOMICS - No report
HOSPITALITY - Soror Ethel introduced visiting Soror Berna Rhodes Ford from Alpha Sigma Omega in Coiombus, OH. Soror
Bema submitted her check to join Theta Theta Omega. A raffle will be held for three prizes. Founders' Day tickets will be
available for pick up after the meeting. The committee will meet on January 24 and February 28 at 5:00 p.m. at the North Area
Service Center.
ON TRACK - Soror Shirley reported that Black History Month and Nevada Reading Week are in February. Sorors were
reminded to read to ON TRACK students. Sorors interested in helping the students with the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade
float were asked to contact the teacher.
FOUNDERS' DAY - Soror Ouida reported that a meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 9 at 5:30 at the North Area
Service Center.
OLD BUSINESS
1) Soror Grace shared ideas for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade float. She shared a schedule for the float preparation at
Soror Sandra Stewart-Bass' house. A driver was requested and a suggestion made to purchase insurance for those sitting
on the float. A discussion was held and it was decided that insurance wasn't necessary. Motion by Soror Lavonne to spend
$300.00 for participation in the parade. Second by Soror Elizabeth. Vote by hand. Motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS
1) Soror Kaweeda thanked sorors for their cooperation during picture taking. Proofe will be given to us with order forms.
2) There is a meeting conflict on February 3 due to the Mardi Gras Ball. Motion by Soror Lisa to hold the February Chapter
Meeting on February 10 at 1:00 p.m. at St. James Church. Second Soror Patti. Vote: 40 in fevor, 4 opposed. Motion
carried.
3) Mardi Gras King and Queen selections were made.
ANNOUNCEMENTS

2) The Martin Luther King, Jr. banquet is on January 20th. Tickets are $100.00.

4) There will be an unveiling of the Martin Luther King, Jr. statue on January 20 at 12:00 on Martin Luther King and Carey.
5) Soror Marian has receipts for sorors to pick up.
6) Soror Dawn will collect ads after the meeting.
7) Soror Grace asked sorors to take pictures of the float for Soror Annette.
8) Sorors were reminded to pick up program books after the meeting.

GRADUATE ADVISOR - Soror Sharon gave tentative dates for Rush (February 25) and MIP (March 16-18). Mentors need to
be assigned. K.O. Knudson Middle School will be the ON TRACK school for Kappa X.
LEAF REPORTER - Soror Annette reported that she and Sorors Wi Ila, Lavonne, and Lynette appeared on the Lillian
McMorris show to talk about Mardi Gras. The show will air on Sunday, January 21 at 6:30 a.m. on Channel 2. An ON
TRACK article will be in the next issue of the Ivy Leaf.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
PROGRAM - Soror Billie distributed copies of the scheduled committee meetings. She will make sure that all sorors have
program books so they can be used at each meeting. Announcements should be turned in to Soror Terri for inclusion in the
Epistoleus report. The Hodegos report will be printed in the newsletter. The newsletter needs to be mailed two weeks prior to
the Chapter meeting. Mailing expenses need to be streamlined.
MEMBERSHIP - No report
WAYS AND MEANS - Soror Marian reported that a copy of the contract with the band for Mardi Gras will be placed in the
Committee book to reference next year. More umbrellas will be ordered for new and reactivating members. Table selection
will take place on Saturday, January 20. The souvenir journal will be turned in on Monday, January 22 for printing A total of

School in April. She will request soror participation for a Career Day that is in the works.

3) Services for Soror Shirley's father-in-law will most likely be on Saturday, January 20. A suggestion was made to drop items
off on Friday.

HODEGOS - Soror Etherthanked the hostesses for today's meeting. February birthdays were acknowledged. Welcome to
Soror Bema Rhodes-Ford who is transferring from Ohio and to visiting Soror Rosalind Williams. Get well wishes to Sorors
Wylene and Annette and sympathy extended to Soror Shirley Carroll for the loss of her father-in-law. Soror Ethel requested
corrections to the directory. Congratulations to Soror Billie for her promotion to Assistant Regional Superintendent (CCSD),
Soror Sharon for her selection for the Clark County Leadership Training, and Soror Ouida for completing her doctorate degree.
GRADUATE ADVISOR - Soror Sharon thanked graduate members who attended Kappa X's meeting on January 21. She
encouraged sorors to consider preparing for the position of Graduate Advisor since her term ends in December 2001. Soror
Sharon was initiated into the Order of Omega and received recognition for her contributions to the development of the UNLV
Greek community. Kappa X participated in the All Greek Interactive Leadership Summit and will participate in the Delta
Sigma Theta Black History Program, "Pay Attention to my Wisdom" on February 23. Kappa X serves as Treasurer for the
National PanHellenic Council for this semester. The Graduate Advisor’s Award for Most Improved GPA went to Soror SiMone
Tyree (3.16) and the award for Highest Semester GPA (3.37) and Cumulative GPA (3.65) went to Soror Natalie Ward. Soror
Ashley Tisdale's name has been submitted for the Norma Solomon White Leadership Award. With approval, Rush will take
place February 25, 2001 and MIP March 9-11. Skee Week activities were shared. Motion by Soror Sharon that Theta Theta
Omega sponsor a fall page advertisement at the cost of $60.00 for Soror Ashley Tisdale in the Miss Black and Gold pageant
book. Second by Soror Billie. Motion carried.
IVY LEAF REPORTER - Soror Annette reported that press releases for Founders' Day luncheon are being prepared. She has
been informed that TTO will have an article in the next ivy Leaf. Soror Annette would like to submit a picture of the Mardi Gras
King and Queen for publication. Motion by Soror Annette to receive a check forffiWfct to submit the picture and a check in
the amount of $7.59 for postage. Second by Soror Frances. Motion carried.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
PROGRAM - Soror Billie announced the committee meeting dates. Mini-workshops for eligible positions will be held at
Chapter meetings. A flyer was shared about the Youth Day Inspiration Flight
MEMBERSHIP - Soror Jackie Hall reported that several sorors will be highlighted in monthly newsletters. The committee is
developing Chapter Awards and will work with the Regional Awards Committee to complete packets for Regionals. MIP is
suggested to take place on September 28-30. Information sheets were distributed and Sponsor sheets will be distributed at
the March meeting. Sponsorship forms are due March 28 and candidate voting will take place at the April Chapter meeting.

CONNECTIONS - Soror Ouida distributed flyers about Grassroots Lobby Days. The next meeting is scheduled for February
13. The Millenium Public Policy Conference II will be held September 26-29 in Washington, DC. Soror Ouida shared the
targets of the Connections Committee adopted by the 2000 Boule.
WAYS AND MEANS - Soror Kaweeda reported that a profit of $1,679.47 was made for the souvenir journal. She
acknowledged the committee and offered extra journals to members present. A final report will be given at the March meeting.

NBLIC - Soror Norma Solomon White will be the guest speaker at the April 23 event.

AKATEENS - Soror Belisa reported that a parent workshop was held and parents were given a handbook. They plan to attend
a scholarship workshop (Feb. 13) and the African American Conference (Feb. 17). Copies of their calendar will be distributed
at the March meeting. Soror Belisa requested a place for the AKATeens to hold stepshow practices.

MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR PARADE - Soror Grace thanked her committee and encouraged sorors to participate on the MLK,
Jr. committee. Motion to participate in the parade in 2002 and include the $50.00 fee in the budget. Discussion was held.
Second by Soror Ouida. Motion carried. Photographs were requested for Soror Annette's scrapbook.
OLD BUSINESS
1) Information for Sharon Walton from Beta Eta Omega was updated.
2) The Committee meeting sign-up sheet was circulated.
3) Sorority pictures were available for ordering after the meeting.
NEW BUSINESS
1) Packets for the Far Western Regional Conference (June 6-10 in Oakland, CA) were made available. The delegate ballot will
be ready for the March meeting. We are entitled to seven delegates. The deadline for registration without late fees is March
31. April 30 is the deadline for registration. There will be no on-site registration. Sorors wishing to send registration in with
the chapter need to submit forms at the March meeting.
2) Soror Jackie made a motion that Theta Theta Omega pay the $35.00 fee to submit awards at Regionals. Second by Soror
Frances. Motion carried.
3) The Chapter Operations Workshop is a requirement for officers and committee chairmen. A meeting will be scheduled for
those who did not attend.

GRADUATE ADVISOR - Soror Sharon will share the responsibilities of the Graduate Advsor during a mini-workshop at the
March chapter meeting. Rush is scheduled for March 4 and MIP is scheduled for March 30 - April 1. Suggestions were given
for possible hotels to hold MIP. Sorors Kaweeda and Ethel offered their homes.
IVY LEAF REPORTER - Soror Annette will get Founders' Day press releases out this week. She requested a check for
to submit a picture of the Mardi Gras king and queen to the Ivy Leaf. Soror Annette was asked to also submit an
article about the Youth in Aviation Flight.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
PROGRAM - Soror Billie reported that the month of March is designated AKA Black Dollar Days. On February 17, thirty two
children participated in the Youth Day Inspiration Flight sponsored by the JB Knighten Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen and the
Organization of Black Airline Pilots. We have been asked to participate in a May 19th Young Eagles program.

OFFICER REPORTS
GRAMMATEUS - Motion by Soror Jacki to accept the February Chapter Meeting minutes with two corrections. Second by
Soror Rhoda. Motion carried. In an effort to save money, minutes will no longer be mailed to sorors without email. Copies
will be distributed to them at the beginning of each meeting.
AMIOCHOUS - Soror Carolyn reported the following balances: Operating Account Fundraising Account -
Account transactions for the months of January and February were distributed and reviewed.
PECUNIOUS GRAMMATEUS - Soror Jacki read the report stating that was collected by Soror Ouida.
EPISTOLEUS - Soror Terri shared the following: a thank you note from Soror Shirley Carroll and an invitation from Soror Diane
Stith to join a Bridge club. A sign-up sheet was circulated.
HODEGOS - Soror Ethel thanked the hostesses for the meeting. Birthdays, anniversaries and births were announced and
sympathies extended. Welcome to transfering Soror Shawna McNair and reactivating Soror Sharon Walton. Congratulations
were extended to Soror Lisa McNeil (new counseling position) and Soror Dorothy Johnson (getting Soror Norma White as
NBLIC speaker). Announcements were made.
GRADUATE ADVISOR - Soror Sharon reported that Rush is scheduled for March 4 and MIP is scheduled for March 30 - April
1. Skee Week was a success and Sorors Jackie Hall and Belisa Brownlee were thanked for attending the Poetry Night.
Soror Ouida was thanked for facilitating the K.O. Knudson project. Sorors Natalie Ward, SiMone Tyree, and Chrystal Harris
attended the February AKATeen meeting and Soror Ashley Tisdale attended the officers' workshop. The May chapter meeting
will be a joint meeting for Kappa X and Theta Theta Omega.
IVY LEAF REPORTER - Soror Annette reported that the ON TRACK article and picture of Soror Shirley were in the last Ivy
Leaf. She shared information about the website. Press releases for Founders'Day have been sent. Motion by Soror Annette
for postage reimbursement of $10.54. Second by Soror Frances. Motion carried. Motion by Soror Annette requesting a
check for $85.00 to submit a picture and article about the Youth in Aviation Flight. Second by Soror Patti. Discussion was
held and motion carried. Soror Billie sad that funding for the picture will be donated.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
PROGRAM - Soror Billie reminded sorors to sign-up for committee meeting times and collect receipts for Black Dollar Days in
the envelopes prouded. These envelopes will be turned in at the April meeting. Soror Billie thanked Soror Pamela Sands for
getting us involved in the Youth in Aviation Flight.
NOMINATIONS - Soror Pamela Riley distributed ballots for Regional Conference delegates. Members voted for six sorors
since the Basileus is usually a delegate. Nominations were taken from the floor and the vote taken.
MEMBERSHIP - Soror Jackie reported that the first MIP workshop was held prior to today's meeting. 34 sorors attended.
The next workshop will be held prior to the September Sth meeting. Motion by Soror Jackie to submit an ad and the chapter
group shot to the Far Western Regional souvenir booklet at a cost of $160.00. Second by Soror Greta. Motion carried.
WAYS AND MEANS - Soror Marian reported a profit of from the Mardi Gras Ball and souvenir booklet. Outstanding
ticket money was requested.

SCHOLARSHIP - Soror Lisa McNeil reported that a second copy of the application will be faxed to high schools. The
committee will meet on April 14 and 25 to select recipients. The reception is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, May 19.
STANDARDS - Soror Sandra reported that the mid-year chapter assessment will be completed at the April meeting.
CONNECTIONS - Soror Quin reported that four sorors have signed up to participate in Grass Roots day on March 27. The
AKA Public Policy Conference will be held in conjunction with the Black Caucus September 26-29. A written report from the
committee included the purpose, goals, and public policy program for 2001.
SPECIAL/AD-HOC COMMITTEES
AKATEENS - Soror Belisa reported that the AKATeens met on March 10 for a workshop on proper dress and etiquette.
Activties for the month included brunch, a movie, business meeting, and Black History program. Fifteen AKATeens will
participate in the Unity fest stepshow. They are still in need of a place to practice. Soror Belisa asked if any sorors would be
willing to purchase Founders' Day luncheon tickets for AKATeens to attend. A calendar of events was distributed.
NBLIC - Soror Dorothy reported that a Health Awareness Fair was held on February 12 where approximately 75 people
received various screenings. She is scheduled to speak at the Professional Black Women's Alliance on March 10th.
Registration materials for the April 23rd health program will be distributed at the April meeting.
ARTS AND HUMANITIES - Soror Quin thanked Soror Celese for getting a storyteller for Fitzgerald ES on February 9th.

GRADUATE ADVISOR - Soror Sharon reported that on March 23 Soror Ashley Tisdale will participate in the Ms. Black and

7. A joint dinner with Theta Theta Omega and Kappa Xi is scheduled for April 6 in celebration of Kappa Xi's 25 years. The KO
Knudson Adopt a School Project will include art, poetry, and an essay contest in April and an etiquette workshop and lunch
on May 12. Soror Ouida will identity the participants. The AIDS walk on April 22 is another scheduled joint activity. Soror
Sharon requested a $75.00 donation. The Kappa Xi picnic is scheduled for April 29 at UNLV.
IVY LEAF REPORTER - Soror Annette reported that the picture of the Mardi Gras king and queen will go in the Regional
News section instead of Social Settings. The article and picture for the Youth Flight will also be submitted. Soror Annette will
call the editor to ask if we can have both articles. If not, the Youth Flight article will be sent later. Press releases are sent out
a month before the event. A suggestion was made to send them out 30 days prior to the ticket deadline.

PROGRAM - Soror Billie reminded sorors to collect receipts for Black Dollar Days in the envelopes provided. The committee
meeting calendar was set for March 28 and April 25. The NBLIC conference will be on April 23 at the Gold Coast.

LEADERSHIP TASK FORCE - Sorer Jacki reported that we have addressed three modules for leadership development so far.
A committee meeting will be scheduled to plan for the remaining modules.

medicine.

sent to Soror Rosalind Griffin, Founders' Day speaker, on behalf of the chapter. Congratulations to the Founders' Day
committee for a job well done, to Soror Lynette for her victory at the polls, and Soror Kaweeda for being chosen to present at
Regionals. Soror Ethel requested that sorors update roster information and remember their Secret Sorors.
GRADUATE ADVISOR - Soror Sharon reported that MIP was held March 30-April 1 and the four new members are Sorors
Andrea Cox, Jazmyn Goode, Tasheba Davis, and LeVonna Williams. Soror Jazmyn had to return to California for health
reasons. Kappa Xi participated in the Unity Festival and International Undergraduate Week. A joint dinner with Theta Theta
Omega and Kappa Xi was held on April 6 in celebration of Kappa Xi's 25 years. The KO Knudson Adopt a School Project will
include art, poetry, and an essay contest in April and an etiquette workshop and lunch on May 12. Soror Ouida will identity
the participants. The AIDS walk on April 22 is another scheduled joint activity. Soror Sharon made a motion requesting a
$75.00 donation. Second by Soror Billie. Motion canted. The greek housing proposal has been supported by Dr. Harter and
is now in phase two.
IVY LEAF REPORTER - Soror Annette reported that the picture of the Mardi Gras king and queen and the article and picture
for the Youth Flight have been submitted. She will bring the Public Relations Album to the next meeting for sorors to see.
Soror Annette held a mini-workshop on the website prior to today's meeting. Usernames and passwords were distributed.
She invited anyone who missed the workshop to see her after the meeting. Press releases will be sent out thirty days prior to
any ticket deadlines. Sorer Annette requested that she receive closing dates for ticket sales far enough in advance to
facilitate this.

PROGRAM - Soror Billie distributed a list of events for the months of March, April, May, and June. A Program Committee
meeting was scheduled for April 18 for all committee chairs.

MEMBERSHIP - Soror Jackie reported that the committee has agreed to move MIP to September 14-16, 2001 so as not to
interfere with the Public Policy Conference. Committee members are researching a place to hold MIP. The Summer
Cooler/Homecoming will be held on July 14 at the home of Soror Kaweeda. All sorors are asked to give the names and
addresses of inactive sorors to Sorer Stacey. The Retreat is scheduled for August 11.
WAYS AND MEANS - Soror Marian shared information about the Juneteenth activity. All sorors were asked to buy a ticket

5) Voting for perspective candidates was held. The recommendation forms and names of sorors submitting letters of
recommendation were read. Sorors voted and the ballots were taken for tallying.

is being compiled. Kappa Xi members do not want to hold a Rush this Fall. Soror Sharon
expressed concern since there are so few undergraduate members. Phase II of Greek housing
is underway and will not proceed to Phase III without commitment from 75% of the membership.
Soror Sharon reminded sorors that her term ends this year and requested suggestions for a
successor. A discussion was held regarding creating an Assistant Graduate Advisor position.
The Constitution and By-laws committee will meet soon and discuss.

committee will meet on April 25th. The reception date of May 19th must be changed due to the
Youth Aviation Flight.

ARTS AND HUMANITIES - Soror Billie reported that we can get a speaker for $50.00 through
the Nevada Humanities committee. We must guarantee contact with the speaker, pick them up
from the airport, provide a location, have at least 20 people, and display the Nevada Humanities
committee logo. Soror Billie will get a packet of information and write any necessary grant. She
is considering writing a grant for a big name speaker. An Arts and Humanities camp will be held
at Fitzgerald ES on May 11th. Packets are being prepared for the children who will participate.

GRADUATE ADVISOR - This was a joint meeting with Kappa X. Soror Sharon announced the Theta Theta Omega mentors
for Kappa Xi members. Soror Ashley reported that Kappa X participated in Greek Week activties. Soror Ashley was
awarded the Outstanding Chapter Member Award, Soror Natalie won for Outstanding New Member, and joint scholarship
reception with Theta Theta Omega, Kappa X, and Omega Psi Phi won for Outstanding Education Program. Soror Ashley is
the presiding president for the National Panhellenic Council and Soror Natalie is acting secretary. Members of Theta Theta
Omega and Kappa X participated in the 11th Annual Aids Walk. The sorority was able to donate $465 to AFAN. Sorors
Ashley and Natalie will be delegates at the Regional Conference. Soror Sharon has been asked to present a workshop at the
Graduate Advisor's Training. Soror Billie was presented with gilts for her support of Kappa X activities.
IVY LEAF REPORTER - Soror Annette brought the Public Relations album for sorors to see. She will schedule a meeting in
June for sorors havng trouble with the website.

purchase two tickets at $7.00 each. Tickets will be available at the June meeting. Sorors Marian and Amanda will co-chair

HEALTH/NBLIC - Soror Dorothy Johnson reported that the public program was a success and has yielded funding
opportunities. A video of Soror Nonna's speech is available for loan to the sorority. She is in the process of writing a grant to
open a Community Resource Center. NBLIC will have a booth at the Nucleus Plaza Juneteenth celebration.
AKATEENS - Soror Belisa reported that the AKATeens are havng a bake sale on May 12. The Unity Fest step show will be
on May 26th at Ham Hall. Motion by Soror Belisa that the AKATeens join ITO for the Juneteenth activity and sell pink and

ECONOMICS - Soror Billie read Soror Diane's report that $2,182.80 from live sorors was reported for Black Dollar Days.
Sorors were asked to list vendors and amounts spent during March before leaving the meeting. The Economics Committee
will assist the Ways and Means Committee with the Juneteenth activity as part of "Invest in Black" month. The Economic
conference is scheduled for December 8, 2001. A location will be determined. A questionnaire was distributed regarding the
formation of an investment club.
HOSPITALITY/SOCIAL WELFARE - Soror Ethel reported that the committee met to discuss responsibilities for the
scholarship reception and the Juneteenth activity. She requested that committee chairmen contact her regarding assistance
for upcoming events. Several sorors met Sorors Norma and Diana at the airport on April 22. They were presented with gilts

June 2, 2001
The meeting was called to order by Basileus Kaweeda Adams at 1:00 p.m. at St. James
the Apostle Catholic Church. Soror Barbara Kirkland led the meditation followed by the
Pledge. Soror Carolyn presented a mini-workshop on the position of Tamiochous which
is up for election this year.
OFFICER REPORTS
GRAMMATEUS - Motion by Soror Jacki Brown to accept the minutes from the May
Chapter meeting with corrections to the Program report and New Business. Second by
Soror Dawn. Motion passed.
TAMIOCHOUS - Soror Carolyn read a letter from the bank explaining a mistake that
affected our registration to Regional Conference. The problem has been corrected. Soror
Carolyn reminded sorors to bring their financial cards to the Conference.
PECUNIOUS GRAMMATEUS - Soror Ouida reported that a total of 4M4L40 was
collected during the month of May.
EPISTOLEUS - Items received 1) Thank you note from Soror Diana Shipley for the
hospitality during her visit to Las Vegas, 2) order form from a vendor who will be at
Regional Conference, 3) a soror, Sandra Owens, will visit Las Vegas in June and asked for
information, 4) an announcement about an Ivy Beyond the Wall, and 5) a request from
Delta Omicron Omega, host chapter for Boule 2002, to purchase an ad.
HODEGOS - Soror Ethel thanked the hostesses for the meeting and announced birthdays
and anniversaries for the months of June and July. Sorors were reminded to remember
their Secret Sorors. Visiting sorors were introduced.
GRADUATE ADVISOR - Soror Sharon reported that prizes for the K.O. Knudson
Adopt-a-School Project will be awarded this week. She thanked Soror Wilhemina for
providing a room at the host hotel for Regional Conference. Motion by Soror Sharon that
Theta Theta Omega assist Kappa Xi in defraying the cost to attend Regional Conference
in the amount of $150.00 to be taken from the allotted budget of the Graduate Advisor.
Second by Soror Lavonne. Motion passed.
IVY LEAF REPORTER - Soror Annette will present a workshop in September on using
the website. She thanked Soror Ethel for updating the birthdays and anniversaries on the
website.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
PROGRAM - Soror Billie thanked Soror Diane Pollard and her husband for their donation
of $1400.00 to be used for the Leadership Conference. She congratulated Soror Quin for
the Arts and Humanities Day at H. P. Fitzgerald and thanked the AKATeen Committee
for their hard work in preparing for the Unity Fest. The Young Eagles Flight was a
success. Motion by Soror Billie for reimbursement of $500.00 spent on the activity.
Second by Soror Sharon. Motion failed. The motion was amended by Soror Lavonne to
reimburse the full amount of $755.80. Second by Soror Barbara. Motion passed. Thanks
to Soror Lavonne for securing a donation of $500.00 to purchase t-shirts for the project,
to Dr. Westfield for his donation and support, and Sorors Ina and Jackie Hall for their
work on the scrapbook. Information was shared about the Summer Cooler. Resumes for
the fall elections are due September 30 for the positions of Anti-Basileus, Anti-
Grammateus, Graduate Advisor, Tamiochous, Philacter, and Member-at-Large.

MEMBERSHIP - Soror Jackie Hall reported that information will be sent to the Regional
Director when two more transcripts are received. The Summer Cooler will be held on
July 14. Sorors were asked to sign-up to bring items before leaving the meeting.
Announcements will be sent to members and invitations to inactive sorors. The Retreat is
scheduled for August 11 and MIP from September 14-16.
WAYS AND MEANS - Soror Marian reported that the Juneteenth activity is on schedule.
Flyers will be distributed after the meeting.
SCHOLARSHIP - Soror Lisa McNeil shared information about the reception. Motion

AKATEENS - Soror Belisa reported that they received compliments for their performance
in the Unity Fest. They will meet next Saturday to hold elections for September.

ARTS AND HUMANITIES - Soror Quin thanked the sorors who attended and
participated in the Arts and Humanities Fair. She also participated in a Career Day at
Fitzgerald.
ECONOMICS - Soror Sharon reported that 15 sorors expressed interest in an Investment
Club which will begin in August. The Economics Committee will assist the Ways and
Means Committee with the Juneteenth activity in honor of “Invest in Black” month. The
Economic Conference will be held on December 8. A location is still needed.
HOSPITALITY - Soror Ethel shared the committee’s activities for the day camp at
Fitzgerald and the Juneteenth celebration. Motion for reimbursement of $26.76. Second
by Soror Billie. Motion passed. Soror Ethel requested sorors to keep her informed of
courtesies needed over the summer.

be certified within one year of taking office. Soror Sharon will order all revised
documents and compile a binder for the next person. Kappa Xi still does not want to hold
a Rush. They will write a letter to Soror Diana Shipley.

PROGRAM - Soror Billie shared the awards received at Regional Conferences. Theta
Theta Omega was the first recipient of the Cornelia Banks Award for Health, placed
second for scrapbook, and earned a doctorate degree for EAF. Soror Annette received
second place for her poetry entry and Soror Billie received second place for the Ida L.
Jackson Award. Sorors Kaweeda and Sharon both served as presenters of workshops.
Twenty-three members of Theta Theta Omega attended the Conference. Soror Amanda
will serve as Thanksgiving basket chairman. A discussion was held about the possibility of
holding an event for new teachers. Other Greek and black organizations would be invited.
Suggestion to hold the event on Friday, September 21 from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.
The possibility of Alpha Kappa Alpha and other experts conducting in-services and
workshops for new teachers was discussed. This addresses the Education target.
MEMBERSHIP - Soror Carolyn reviewed the information for the Retreat on August 11
from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Hacienda Hotel (formerly the Gold Strike). The
meal will cost $8.99 and the fee will be $20.00. Soror Ouida would like to hold the

which will be provided to members at the September 8th chapter meeting. There has still
been no word about a fall MIP.

PROGRAM - A Constitution and Bylaws workshop will be planned prior to the October

in two articles in the last Ivy Leaf. She will submit an article about Soror Dorothy
Johnson for a future Newsmakers feature. Soror Annette reminded sorors to visit the

began with nine candidates and six will participate. She presented an MIP workshop and
the commitment sheet was circulated for signatures.
WAYS AND MEANS - Soror Marian reported that the Mardi Gras Ball will be held on
either March 9th or 16th at the Rio Hotel. There will be a souvenir journal again this year.

Connection picnic. She asked that sorors hang flyers about a free health screening for
women.

literary activity dealing with African American authors and book donations.

General Meeting Notes for - October 6,2001
Prior to our general meeting, the sorors had a meeting to discuss our newly proposed “Manual of Standard
Chapter Operations and Bylaws”, revisions. We also had a mini Ways and Means Mardi Gras Ball update.
The following is what soror Marian shared:
1. The site of the ball will be the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino.
2. The ball will be held on March 16,2002
3. Ticket price is $75.00 per person
4. Several bands are being considered. The maximum price that we will pay for a band will be

Graduate Advisor’s Report: Soror Sharon reported that Kappa Xi participated in “Break the Ice Week”,
the Joan Walker kidney transplant fundraiser, Sex in the Dark: A Sex and Relationship Forum, and the
Greek Convocation. Kappa Xi has developed chapter goals and objectives for the fell of2001. Soror
Levona Williams will present a workshop with Soror Celese Rayford of Theta Theta Omega at the InterMountain
Cluster, which will be held on October 20,2001 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Rush is tentatively
scheduled for November 4,2001 and MIP is scheduled for November 16-18,2001 or November 30 -
December 1,2001, pending approval from the Regional Director and International Headquarters.

Constitution and Bylaws: Soror Billie reported that sorors received copies of the proposed changes at last
month’s meeting, we were mailed copies of the proposed changes, and we had a workshop to discussed tire
proposed changes today before the general meeting. Were there any questions? Sorer Sandra asked
whether the additional positions of 2nd Anti Basileus and Assistant Graduate Advisor really that necessary.
Soror Billie stated that with the volume of work that the 1st Anti-Basileus and Graduate Advisor have to do,
assistance is needed.
Sorors were given ballots to vote of the proposed changes. Ballots were cast. The tellers were Sorors
Thais Baccus, Virginia Ingram, Patti Hester, Jamie Hawkins, and Beverly Winston.

Membership Committee Report: Soror Jackie Hall presented a tentative financial statement regarding our
recent MIP weekend. We did not go over our budget. We met all costs. The goal of the committee was to

Ways and Means Committee Report: Soror Marian reiterated some of the Mardi Gras Ball details. She
stated that Soror Tina Rimmey was a great asset when it came to fire negotiations with the hotel. Because
of the fact the Soror Tina works at the Monte Carlo, she was able to get many of the big-ticket items that
we would have to pay for, reduced. Yea, Tina! It was also stressed that we should work really hard to get
ads for our souvenir journal. Much of our profits will be garnered through this venture.

held on Wednesday, October 24th, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Voter’s Registration Office. Address: 965

and Craig Road. At least 15 people are needed to make the training worthwhile. There will be a
Connections Workshop held on November 3rd at 12:00 noon. Some of the topics that will be covered are:
The Importance of Voting, Importance of Voter’s Registration, How to Run For Public Office, etc. Elected
officers who have made a verbal commitment to attend this workshop are: State Senator Joe Neal, County

Economics Report: Sorer Amanda reported that the Investment Club has elected officers. Each soror Mho
is participating was asked to make a five-year commitment to the club. Dues were decided upon. Their

Leadership Task Force: Soror Kaweeda stated that the chapter has completed all seven modules of the
Leadership Development Program. We wl 11 begin again in 2002, insuring that the goals and modules of the
program will be met.
Safe Nest: Soror Gwendolyn thanked sorors for bringing items for Safe Nest, which is a shelter for abused
and battered women. She stated that underwear, bottles, and diapers are especially needed. If ther^any
other sorors who would like to donate, please bring them to Soror Gwendolyn’s home or to H.P. Fitzgerald
Elementary School.
Old Business:
Thanksgiving Baskets: soror Sami reported that the menu for each basket will consist of: turkey, dressing,
macaroni and cheese, green beans, and cranberry sauce. The committee’s goal is to provide baskets for 25
families. Each soror was asked to donate $10.00. The committee will meet on Friday, November 16* at
Soror Amanda’s home to assemble the baskets and they will given to the families on November 17*.
Soror Kaweeda mentioned that the 2005 Regional Conference sign-up sheets are being passed around.
Please make sure that we sign-up for the various committees and return the sheets to Kaweeda when we
have finished with the sign-ups.
New Business: Chapter Committees and Hostess Sign-up sheets will be available at our November 3rd
general chapter meeting.
Manual of Standard Chapter Operations will require a motion. Soror Billie moved that the Chapter

SCHOLARSHIP - Soror Kaweeda reported that all checks have been sent to scholarship
recipients.
STANDARDS - Soror Kaweeda reported that the end-of-year evaluation will be done at
the November chapter meeting.
CONNECTIONS - Soror Ouida reported that there will be a Connections workshop at
12:00 prior to the November chapter meeting. Presenters Senator Neal, Assemblymen
Williams and Arberry, Commissioner Atkinson-Gates, and Councilwoman Boggs-
McDonald have all confirmed. A class to become a deputy registrar of voters will be held
on Wednesday, October 24, 2001 at 6:00 p.m.

both documents were approved at the October chapter meeting. By-laws are effective

The rededication ceremony will be held on the Friday night before the luncheon. She
shared a confirmation letter from Soror Larzette Hale, 17th Past Supreme Basileus. The
theme will be “Blazing New Trails Through Economics”. Soror Larzette is an economics
teacher at the University of Utah.
LEADERSHIP TASK FORCE - Soror Kaweeda reported that all seven modules have
been completed. We will begin again in January.
Old Business
1) Dates for distributing Thanksgiving baskets were shared.
2) Chapter meeting hostess sign-ups will be done at the November meeting.
3) Sorors were asked to bring toiletry items or monetary donations for Safe Nest to the

November 3, 2001
A Connections Workshop entitled “Everything You Wanted to Know About Being in
Public Office But Were Afraid to Ask” was held at 12:00 p.m. Panel guests were County
Commissioner Yvonne Atkinson-Gates, Assemblyman Wendell Williams, Senator Joseph
Neal, Soror Councilwoman Lynette Boggs-McDonald, and Assemblyman Morse Arberry.
Soror Lavonne Lewis served as the moderator. The panel discussed qualifications of a
good candidate, motivation to run for office, steps to becoming a candidate, and raising
money to run for office.
The meeting was called to order by Basileus Kaweeda Adams at 1:10 p.m. at St. James
the Apostle Catholic Church. Soror Barbara Kirkland led the meditation followed by the
Pledge.
OFFICER REPORTS
GRAMMATEUS - Soror Sandra Stewart-Bass was thanked for recording the October
minutes. Motion by Soror Jacki Brown to accept the minutes from the October Chapter
meeting. Second by Soror Annette. Motion passed.
TAMIOCHOUS - Soror Carolyn reported the following balances; Operating account B
and Fundraising account - The 2002 budget will be presented at the

Billie Rayford. Announcements were made and “the real soror” for the month was Soror
Edna States. Visiting Sorors Flora Schaeffer and Denise Williams were introduced and
welcomed.
GRADUATE ADVISOR - Soror Sharon reported that Kappa Xi participated in “Break
the Ice Week” and AKA Coat Day. They are working with students at Matt Kelly
Elementary School and handed out breast cancer awareness materials during the month of
October. Soror Levona Williams presented a workshop with Soror Celese Rayford at the
Inter-Mountain Cluster in Salt Lake City, Utah. Kappa Xi has eight members, but Soror
SiMone Tyree is currently on withdrawal of privileges until her transcripts are received
and reviewed. Graduate Advisor Task Force members are encouraged to attend Kappa Xi
meetings and activities. Rush is scheduled for Sunday, November 4,2001 at 4:00 p.m.
M1P is scheduled for November 30 - December 1, 2001 pending the approval of the
Regional Director. Mentors were reminded to contact their undergraduate mentees.
IVY LEAF REPORTER - Soror Annette reported that the Public Relations Committee
will design the tickets and send press releases for Founders’ Day and the Mardi Gras Ball.
She will email sorors with the date for the AKA website workshop.

PROGRAM - Soror Kaweeda reminded committee chairmen to pick up end of year report

WAYS AND MEANS - Soror Marian reported that the Mardi Gras Ball will be held on
March 9, 2002 at the Monte Carlo Hotel from 8:00 p.m. until 12:00 midnight. Tickets are
$75.00 each. The band, The Press, has been contacted to perform. Tickets and souvenir
journal forms will be distributed after the meeting. Soror Verlia Davis Hoggard has
already sold the back cover of the souvenir journal. Soror Jackie Hall gave the turn in
dates for ads. The committee will arrive at 12:00 p.m. prior to the Chapter meetings on
December 1st, January 5th, and February 9th to collect ads and money. The final turn-in
date is February 20th. Sorors are asked to sell a full page in any combination. Ideas for a
cover design are needed.
SCHOLARSHIP - No report
STANDARDS - Soror Sandra reported that the end-of-year chapter assessment will be
completed in December.
CONNECTIONS - Soror Ouida reported that Sorors Frances Perry, Wilhemina Lee,
Ouida Brown, Lavonne Lewis, and Elizabeth Sheffield were trained to register voters.
She asked that anyone interested in receiving training let her know so another class can be
scheduled.
CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS - Soror Kaweeda reported that final copies of the
updated documents will be included in the Program booklet. Soror Lavonne discovered
an omitted word in the drafts which will be corrected. Proposed changes to the By-laws
that will be presented at Boule were reviewed at the Inter-Mountain Cluster. We will
discuss these as a chapter as soon as copies are received.
INTER-MOUNTAIN CLUSTER - Soror Verlia reported that Sorors Sharon Savage,
Celese Rayford, Billie Rayford, Lavonne Lewis, Quin Rivers, Kaweeda Adams, and she
attended the October 20111 Cluster meeting. Soror Larzette Hale was also in attendance
and is looking forward to coming to Las Vegas for Founders’ Day. Theta Theta Omega
was recognized as the first recipient of the Cornelia Harris Banks Health Award. Sorors
Celese, Quin, and Levona Williams (Kappa Xi) served as presenters. Copies of a
proposed Code of Ethics for the sorority will be provided.
SPECIAL/AD-HOC COMMITTEE REPORTS
AKATEENS - Soror Belisa reported that their annual tea was held on September 17th and
a total of eleven new members were accepted. Policies, rules, and regulations were
reviewed at the first meeting. The AKATEENS will perform in a talent show sponsored
by the Archonettes, a youth group advised by the Zetas, on November 17th.

NBLIC - Soror Dorothy reported that she will travel to Los Angeles to present a
workshop on decreasing cancer risk through diet. She presented St. James Church with
two posters about the 5-A-Day Program for the children.
ARTS AND HUMANITIES - Soror Quin reported that the committee held a Halloween
party for Soror Gwen’s kindergarten class at Fitzgerald Elementary School.
ECONOMICS - Soror Kaweeda reported that the Economics workshop will be held on
December 8th at Community College of Southern Nevada, West Charleston campus.
HOSPITALITY - Soror Ethel asked sorors to reclaim Secret Soror gifts if their person is
not present at a meeting. She will visit Soror Billie in the hospital today and will deliver
cards and well wishes.
ON TRACK - Soror Shirley has been in contact with the reading teacher and librarian at
Fitzgerald Elementary School to determine their needs. They requested small group tutors
for grades 1-5. Those who are interested should call the school directly and speak with
Ms. Goines. Soror Shirley would like to have several sorors participate in Nevada
Reading Week.
FOUNDERS’ DAY - Soror Ouida reported that Founders’ Day will be held at 12:00 noon
on February 2, 2002. Sorors are required to sell three tickets at a cost of $33.00 each in
order for the chapter to break even.

OLD BUSINESS
1) Soror Sami requested that sorors donate $10.00 for Thanksgiving baskets if they had
not already done so. Baskets will be assembled on November 16th and delivered on
November 17th.
2) Soror Rhoda reported that she received an email requesting donations for the Senior
Nutrition program. The kick-off is scheduled for November 10th at 11:30 a.m. Theta
Theta Omega is asked to “Adopt-a-Park” or “Adopt-a-Block”. A suggestion was made
that the chapter put a pink and green bench and trash can (for Kappa Xi) in the park.
NEW BUSINESS
1) Concerns about the expense of refreshments for Chapter meetings were discussed. The
Executive Committee voted to have only drinks at their meetings. A suggestion was made
to have drinks and cookies/cake at Chapter meetings. A discussion was held which
included the fact that the chapter voted on this issue in 1993.
*Motion by Soror Amanda that Theta Theta Omega have drinks and dessert only at
Chapter meetings beginning in January 2002. Second by Soror Elizabeth. In favor - 35.

2) There will be a Founders’ Day Committee meeting on Monday, November 26th at Soror

GRADUATE ADVISOR - Soror Sharon reported that the December chapter meeting will
be a joint meeting with Kappa Xi and all officers will be installed. Kappa Xi may
participate in a step show sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity on December 1, 2001
with a $1,000.00 prize. Rush was held in November, but there were no eligible
candidates. A Graduate Advisors’ retreat is scheduled for January 4, 5, and 6, 2002 at the
Gold Coast. The Greek Advisory Council has asked Soror Sharon to serve on a
committee to revise the Greek Relationship Statement. Buckle Up key chains have been
ordered to distribute to Matt Kelly students.
IVY LEAF REPORTER - Soror Annette reported that the article on Soror Dorothy
Johnson has been submitted for inclusion in the Newsmakers section in a future issue of
the Ivy Leaf. She designed and printed 354 tickets for the Founders’ Day luncheon.
Soror Annette has faxed a request to appear on the Lillian McMorris show but has not
heard from her yet. She is working on the 2001 publicity album and will hold a website
training in January.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
PROGRAM - Soror Billie reported that we need to review committees/programs to see if
we need to eliminate any. She developed and distributed a list with descriptions of
committees and programs for review. A suggestion was made to add a column for sorors
to express interest in chairing. There will be an Arts and Humanities program at the West
Charleston campus of Community College of Southern Nevada on the Friday night before
Founders’ Day at 7:00 p.m. Kim Harris from the House of Blues will perform at a cost of
to the chapter. A reception and rededication ceremony will be held at Soror
Ouida’s house after the program.

Education Foundation now. The committee needs to determine the scholarship amounts

the December chapter meeting.
CONNECTIONS - Soror Ouida reported that thank you notes were sent to the
participants of the workshop. She will provide a list of committees that are available for
state appointed offices. Soror Ouida will also provide a list of available dates for registrar
training. The Connections Committee was featured in the last Ivy Leaf. The committee
will consider a suggestion by Soror Sharon to hold a second panel discussion/workshop
and open it to the public.

ARTS AND HUMANITIES - Soror Billie reported that Kim-Harris from the House of
Blues will perform on February 1, 2002 at the West Charleston campus of Community
College of Southern Nevada.
ECONOMICS - Soror Billie reported that the Economics conference will be held on
December 8, 2001 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Community College of Southern
Nevada-West Charleston in Building B Room 105. Jean Jones, CEO of Alpha Services,
will be the keynote speaker. Presenters include Leon Pearson, Scott Craig, David Pulliam,
Linda Williams, and Sorors Sami Randolph and Bema Rhodes Ford. Soror Billie would
like representatives from financial institutions to open savings accounts for the students
who attend the conference. Sorors will be asked to act as facilitators for each session.
HOSPITALITY - Soror Ethel requested that committee chairmen contact her when
assistance is needed from the Hospitality committee. She also requested a quarterly
membership list so that birthday and anniversary acknowledgements are sent only to
financial members. Soror Ouida will provide these quarterly reports to the Basileus, Anti-
Basileus, Grammateus, and Hodegos. Sisterly relations activities will be announced at
monthly chapter meetings. Soror Ethel requested extra reimbursement forms. Forms will
be provided to committees in the future. These forms need to in triplicate so that the
Tamiochous, Pecunious Grammateus, and committee chair have copies.

FOUNDERS’ DAY - Soror Ouida reported that the committee has finalized travel
arrangements for Soror Larzette Hale and Soror Diana Shipley. Soror Annette was
thanked for preparing the tickets. Each soror is asked to sell five tickets to meet our 300
person minimum. Invitations will be sent to other Greek organizations. Sorors are asked
to provide contact information to Soror Annette. The rededication ceremony will be held
on Friday, February 1, 2002 at 8:30 p.m. at Soror Guida’s house.

1) The Martin Luther King, Jr. parade committee has begun working.
2) The chapter needs to vote for the Thelma Tyree Award.
3) The chapter needs to vote for Mardi Gras king and queen.

GRADUATE ADVISOR - Soror Sharon reported that Kappa Xi will distribute Buckle
Up key chains and information on seat belt safety to students at Matt Kelly Elementary
School on December 6, 2001. Rush was held on November 4, 2001, but the three ladies
who attended were ineligible for consideration. Kappa Xi members will participate in a
step show sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. with a $1,000 prize. Soror
Diana Shipley is sponsoring a Graduate Advisor’s Retreat at the Gold Coast from January
4-6, 2002. Soror Sharon has been asked to serve on a committee to revise the Greek
Relationship Statement. Sorors were reminded to contact their undergraduate mentees.
All members of the Graduate Advisors Task Force were encouraged to attend Kappa Xi
functions in an effort to reach our objective of enhancing the relationship between
graduate and undergraduate members. Soror Ashley was presented with the Graduate
Advisor’s Outstanding Academic Achievement Award.
IVY T -F-AF REPORTER - Soror Annette reported that the article on Soror Dorothy
Johnson has been submitted for inclusion in a future Newsmakers section of the Ivy Leaf.
The Public Relations Committee designed and printed the tickets for Founders’ Day.
Soror Annette has contacted Lillian McMorris regarding publicity for the Founders’ Day
luncheon and Mardi Gras Ball and is awaiting a response. Press releases for Founders’
Day and the Mardi Gras Ball will be sent to all media. An article on the Connections
Committee appeared in the Fall issue of the Ivy Leaf.

1) Soror Diana Shipley has asked us to participate in the Graduate Advisor’s Retreat from
January 4-6, 2002. She is looking for presenters from law enforcement.
2) Chapter dues are due by the January chapter meeting. Assessments must be paid before
dues will be accepted.
3) Appointments for committee chairmen, Second Anti-Basileus, and Second Graduate
Advisor will be made at the January chapter meeting.
4) Soror Willa requested that we get a storage facility or a volunteer to store the AKA
materials she has in her garage. Soror Belisa thinks the chapter voted on a storage unit in
the past. This will be researched in the minutes.

TAMIOCHOUS - Soror Carolyn reported the following balances; Operating account Fundraising account -
and Community account - fJtfWKW A printed report for November and December was distributed. There was a
question about whether "income" and "miscellaneous" would be specified at some date and the answer was yes'. Soror
Carolyn also reported that check numbers would be added to the reports in the future. Motion by Soror Carolyn to file the
report for audit. An amended December report was distributed. The Budget and Executive Committees recommended that
sorors with two 'insufficient funds' checks may not be permitted to use checks for one year. They must use cashier’s checks,
money orders, or cash. Sorors were asked to put their names on checks from people purchasing Mardi Gras tickets.
PECUNIOUS GRAMMATEUS - Soror Marian reported thatwas collected at the December Chapter meeting and
at the December 13 Executive Committee meeting and then turned over to the Tamiochous for deposit.
EPISTOLE US - Soror Terri reported that items received were 1) thank you from Sunrise Children’s Hospital for the toy
donations, 2) invitation from the LV alumni chapter of Delta Sigma Theta to their Founders' Day luncheon, and 3) regrets from
Soror France Holland because she will not rejoin for 2001. Articles for inclusion in the next month's issue of the Tea Rose
Talk must be submitted at the Chapter Meeting.
HODEGOS - Soror Ethel welcomed visiting Soror Victoria Franklin, a Theta Theta Omega scholarship recipient, from lota Tau
at Arizona University. The Executive Committee meeting date, birthdays, and anniversaries were announced. Get well
wishes extended to Soror Annette after her surgery and sympathy extended to Soror Simone for the passing of her
grandfather. Secret Soror forms were completed. Soror Ethel read a passage she'd written about promoting sisterly
relations. The Thelma Tyree Award form was redewed. Past recipients were asked to stand.

IVY LEAF REPORTER - Soror Annette reported that twenty-three press releases were sent out on December 20 to advertise
the Mardi Gras Ball. She has spoken with Lillian McMorris and Sorors Lavonne, Willa, and Lynette will join Soror Annette on
the show on January 16th to talk about the Mardi Gras Ball. She invited sorors to look at the Public Relations Album after the
meeting. Soror Annette plans to submit pictures of the Mardi Gras King and Queen and an article featuring Soror Dorothy
Johnson to the next Ivy Leaf. She again requested sorors' contacts with other organizations.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
PROGRAM - Soror Billie reviewed the volunteer log forms and committee meeting schedule. Committee meetings will be held
on the fourth Wednesday of the month at the North Area Sendee Center. A sign-up sheet was circulated. Sorors were asked
to make corrections to the directory. A final copy will be distributed at the February meeting.
MEMBERSHIP - Soror Jackie Hall distributed profile sheets to be completed by all sorors. These will be printed in the
monthly newsletters. A committee meeting is scheduled for January 24 at 6:00 p.m. at the North Area Service Center.
WAYS AND MEANS - Soror Marian reported that the committee met on December 13. The ticket money tum-in date is

NBUC - Soror Dorothy reported that the West Las Vegas Library has asked the NBLIC to adopt 100 children and 50 parents
to present monthly nutrition lectures. Soror Ouida has agreed to do this. A partnership has been established with the
Southern Nevada Cancer Research Center. A meeting has been scheduled to plan a program for Black History Month. Soror
Dorothy received a call from the President's Cancer Panel requesting recommendations for speakers for the regional meeting.
Soror Dorothy is being nominated for a Ford Foundation Grant of $100,000 over two years. She has also been invited to the
8th Annual Symposium on Minorities. Motion by Soror Dorothy to receive a $500.00 check for the April 23, 2001 health
program. Second by Soror Billie. Motion carried.
AKATEENS - Soror Belisa reported that a parent workshop is scheduled for Saturday, January 20th at 1:30 p.m. in the Bob
Miller Middle School library.

available for pick up after the meeting. The committee will meet on January 24 and February 28 at 5:00 p.m. at the North Area
Service Center.
ON TRACK - Soror Shirley reported that Black History Month and Nevada Reading Week are in February. Sorors were
reminded to read to ON TRACK students. Sorors interested in helping the students with the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade
float were asked to contact the teacher.

1) Soror Grace shared ideas for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade float. She shared a schedule for the float preparation at
Soror Sandra Stewart-Bass' house. A driver was requested and a suggestion made to purchase insurance for those sitting
on the float. A discussion was held and it was decided that insurance wasn't necessary. Motion by Soror Lavonne to spend
$300.00 for participation in the parade. Second by Soror Elizabeth. Vote by hand. Motion carried.

1) Soror Kaweeda thanked sorors for their cooperation during picture taking. Proofe will be given to us with order forms.

Wylene and Annette and sympathy extended to Soror Shirley Carroll for the loss of her father-in-law. Soror Ethel requested
corrections to the directory. Congratulations to Soror Billie for her promotion to Assistant Regional Superintendent (CCSD),
Soror Sharon for her selection for the Clark County Leadership Training, and Soror Ouida for completing her doctorate degree.
GRADUATE ADVISOR - Soror Sharon thanked graduate members who attended Kappa X's meeting on January 21. She
encouraged sorors to consider preparing for the position of Graduate Advisor since her term ends in December 2001. Soror
Sharon was initiated into the Order of Omega and received recognition for her contributions to the development of the UNLV
Greek community. Kappa X participated in the All Greek Interactive Leadership Summit and will participate in the Delta
Sigma Theta Black History Program, "Pay Attention to my Wisdom" on February 23. Kappa X serves as Treasurer for the
National PanHellenic Council for this semester. The Graduate Advisor’s Award for Most Improved GPA went to Soror SiMone
Tyree (3.16) and the award for Highest Semester GPA (3.37) and Cumulative GPA (3.65) went to Soror Natalie Ward. Soror
Ashley Tisdale's name has been submitted for the Norma Solomon White Leadership Award. With approval, Rush will take
place February 25, 2001 and MIP March 9-11. Skee Week activities were shared. Motion by Soror Sharon that Theta Theta
Omega sponsor a fall page advertisement at the cost of $60.00 for Soror Ashley Tisdale in the Miss Black and Gold pageant
book. Second by Soror Billie. Motion carried.
IVY LEAF REPORTER - Soror Annette reported that press releases for Founders' Day luncheon are being prepared. She has
been informed that TTO will have an article in the next ivy Leaf. Soror Annette would like to submit a picture of the Mardi Gras
King and Queen for publication. Motion by Soror Annette to receive a check forffiWfct to submit the picture and a check in
the amount of $7.59 for postage. Second by Soror Frances. Motion carried.

PROGRAM - Soror Billie announced the committee meeting dates. Mini-workshops for eligible positions will be held at
Chapter meetings. A flyer was shared about the Youth Day Inspiration Flight
MEMBERSHIP - Soror Jackie Hall reported that several sorors will be highlighted in monthly newsletters. The committee is
developing Chapter Awards and will work with the Regional Awards Committee to complete packets for Regionals. MIP is
suggested to take place on September 28-30. Information sheets were distributed and Sponsor sheets will be distributed at
the March meeting. Sponsorship forms are due March 28 and candidate voting will take place at the April Chapter meeting.

WAYS AND MEANS - Soror Kaweeda reported that a profit of $1,679.47 was made for the souvenir journal. She
acknowledged the committee and offered extra journals to members present. A final report will be given at the March meeting.

1) Packets for the Far Western Regional Conference (June 6-10 in Oakland, CA) were made available. The delegate ballot will

31. April 30 is the deadline for registration. There will be no on-site registration. Sorors wishing to send registration in with
the chapter need to submit forms at the March meeting.
2) Soror Jackie made a motion that Theta Theta Omega pay the $35.00 fee to submit awards at Regionals. Second by Soror
Frances. Motion carried.
3) The Chapter Operations Workshop is a requirement for officers and committee chairmen. A meeting will be scheduled for

sympathies extended. Welcome to transfering Soror Shawna McNair and reactivating Soror Sharon Walton. Congratulations
were extended to Soror Lisa McNeil (new counseling position) and Soror Dorothy Johnson (getting Soror Norma White as

GRADUATE ADVISOR - Soror Sharon reported that Rush is scheduled for March 4 and MIP is scheduled for March 30 - April
1. Skee Week was a success and Sorors Jackie Hall and Belisa Brownlee were thanked for attending the Poetry Night.
Soror Ouida was thanked for facilitating the K.O. Knudson project. Sorors Natalie Ward, SiMone Tyree, and Chrystal Harris
attended the February AKATeen meeting and Soror Ashley Tisdale attended the officers' workshop. The May chapter meeting
will be a joint meeting for Kappa X and Theta Theta Omega.
IVY LEAF REPORTER - Soror Annette reported that the ON TRACK article and picture of Soror Shirley were in the last Ivy
Leaf. She shared information about the website. Press releases for Founders'Day have been sent. Motion by Soror Annette
for postage reimbursement of $10.54. Second by Soror Frances. Motion carried. Motion by Soror Annette requesting a
check for $85.00 to submit a picture and article about the Youth in Aviation Flight. Second by Soror Patti. Discussion was
held and motion carried. Soror Billie sad that funding for the picture will be donated.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
PROGRAM - Soror Billie reminded sorors to sign-up for committee meeting times and collect receipts for Black Dollar Days in
the envelopes prouded. These envelopes will be turned in at the April meeting. Soror Billie thanked Soror Pamela Sands for
getting us involved in the Youth in Aviation Flight.
NOMINATIONS - Soror Pamela Riley distributed ballots for Regional Conference delegates. Members voted for six sorors
since the Basileus is usually a delegate. Nominations were taken from the floor and the vote taken.
MEMBERSHIP - Soror Jackie reported that the first MIP workshop was held prior to today's meeting. 34 sorors attended.
The next workshop will be held prior to the September Sth meeting. Motion by Soror Jackie to submit an ad and the chapter
group shot to the Far Western Regional souvenir booklet at a cost of $160.00. Second by Soror Greta. Motion carried.
WAYS AND MEANS - Soror Marian reported a profit of from the Mardi Gras Ball and souvenir booklet. Outstanding

STANDARDS - Soror Sandra reported that the mid-year chapter assessment will be completed at the April meeting.
CONNECTIONS - Soror Quin reported that four sorors have signed up to participate in Grass Roots day on March 27. The
AKA Public Policy Conference will be held in conjunction with the Black Caucus September 26-29. A written report from the
committee included the purpose, goals, and public policy program for 2001.
SPECIAL/AD-HOC COMMITTEES
AKATEENS - Soror Belisa reported that the AKATeens met on March 10 for a workshop on proper dress and etiquette.
Activties for the month included brunch, a movie, business meeting, and Black History program. Fifteen AKATeens will
participate in the Unity fest stepshow. They are still in need of a place to practice. Soror Belisa asked if any sorors would be
willing to purchase Founders' Day luncheon tickets for AKATeens to attend. A calendar of events was distributed.
NBLIC - Soror Dorothy reported that a Health Awareness Fair was held on February 12 where approximately 75 people
received various screenings. She is scheduled to speak at the Professional Black Women's Alliance on March 10th.
Registration materials for the April 23rd health program will be distributed at the April meeting.
ARTS AND HUMANITIES - Soror Quin thanked Soror Celese for getting a storyteller for Fitzgerald ES on February 9th.

7. A joint dinner with Theta Theta Omega and Kappa Xi is scheduled for April 6 in celebration of Kappa Xi's 25 years. The KO
Knudson Adopt a School Project will include art, poetry, and an essay contest in April and an etiquette workshop and lunch
on May 12. Soror Ouida will identity the participants. The AIDS walk on April 22 is another scheduled joint activity. Soror
Sharon requested a $75.00 donation. The Kappa Xi picnic is scheduled for April 29 at UNLV.
IVY LEAF REPORTER - Soror Annette reported that the picture of the Mardi Gras king and queen will go in the Regional
News section instead of Social Settings. The article and picture for the Youth Flight will also be submitted. Soror Annette will
call the editor to ask if we can have both articles. If not, the Youth Flight article will be sent later. Press releases are sent out
a month before the event. A suggestion was made to send them out 30 days prior to the ticket deadline.

PROGRAM - Soror Billie reminded sorors to collect receipts for Black Dollar Days in the envelopes provided. The committee
meeting calendar was set for March 28 and April 25. The NBLIC conference will be on April 23 at the Gold Coast.

LEADERSHIP TASK FORCE - Sorer Jacki reported that we have addressed three modules for leadership development so far.
A committee meeting will be scheduled to plan for the remaining modules.

GRADUATE ADVISOR - Soror Sharon reported that MIP was held March 30-April 1 and the four new members are Sorors
Andrea Cox, Jazmyn Goode, Tasheba Davis, and LeVonna Williams. Soror Jazmyn had to return to California for health
reasons. Kappa Xi participated in the Unity Festival and International Undergraduate Week. A joint dinner with Theta Theta
Omega and Kappa Xi was held on April 6 in celebration of Kappa Xi's 25 years. The KO Knudson Adopt a School Project will
include art, poetry, and an essay contest in April and an etiquette workshop and lunch on May 12. Soror Ouida will identity
the participants. The AIDS walk on April 22 is another scheduled joint activity. Soror Sharon made a motion requesting a
$75.00 donation. Second by Soror Billie. Motion canted. The greek housing proposal has been supported by Dr. Harter and
is now in phase two.
IVY LEAF REPORTER - Soror Annette reported that the picture of the Mardi Gras king and queen and the article and picture
for the Youth Flight have been submitted. She will bring the Public Relations Album to the next meeting for sorors to see.
Soror Annette held a mini-workshop on the website prior to today's meeting. Usernames and passwords were distributed.
She invited anyone who missed the workshop to see her after the meeting. Press releases will be sent out thirty days prior to
any ticket deadlines. Sorer Annette requested that she receive closing dates for ticket sales far enough in advance to
facilitate this.

PROGRAM - Soror Billie distributed a list of events for the months of March, April, May, and June. A Program Committee
meeting was scheduled for April 18 for all committee chairs.

MEMBERSHIP - Soror Jackie reported that the committee has agreed to move MIP to September 14-16, 2001 so as not to
interfere with the Public Policy Conference. Committee members are researching a place to hold MIP. The Summer
Cooler/Homecoming will be held on July 14 at the home of Soror Kaweeda. All sorors are asked to give the names and
addresses of inactive sorors to Sorer Stacey. The Retreat is scheduled for August 11.
WAYS AND MEANS - Soror Marian shared information about the Juneteenth activity. All sorors were asked to buy a ticket
and donate time.
SCHOLARSHIP - No report
STANDARDS - Soror Sandra distributed the mid-year assessment for sorors to complete. The results will be shared at the
next meeting.
CONNECTIONS - Soror Ouida reported that she and Sorors Ethel, Quin, and Elizabeth went to the state capital on Tuesday,
March 27. They sat in on Senate and Assembly Committee meetings and were greeted by several State Senators and
Assembly men including Senator Joseph Neal Jr.

Soror Cathy Camille Bradley, guest of Soror Annette. Sorors were asked to meet and greet Sorors Norma White and Diana
Shipley at the airport when they arrive for the health conference. Kappa Alpha Psi's regional conference will be held April 11-
15 and sorors were asked to hostess a hospitality suite on Thursday, April 12. A sign-up sheet was circulated. Soror Ethel
made a motion for reimbursement of $205.34 for courtesies to date. Second by Soror Billie. Motion carried.

FOUNDERS' DAY - Soror Billie shared the final report for the luncheon including the budget and evaluation results. Thank
you's extended to Soror Donyss for the centerpieces, Soror Darlene for the programs, and Soror Annette for the certificates.
Motion by Soror Billie to reimburse $357.00 to Soror Darlene for the programs and $499.60 to Soror Ethel for souvenirs and
courtesies. Second by Soror Amanda. Motion carried. Plaques were distributed to sorors who did not receive them at the
Founders' Day luncheon.

I1) Soror Ina has scheduled a meeting to discuss scrapbook ideas on April 25, 5:30 at the North Area Service Center.

1) Regional committee sign-ups will be held at the May meeting.
2) Soror Jackie reported that the Awards Committee met to assign duties for Regional Conference Awards. Each committee
member was also asked to come up with a chapter award with specific criteria.
3) The Executive Committee discussed the need for a back-up person to collect money when the Pecunious Grammateus is
absent. Motion by Soror Willa to bond the Anti-Grammateus as a back-up. Second by Soror Frances. Motion carried.
4) Soror Ouida has membership cards to distribute after the meeting.
5) Voting for perspective candidates was held. The recommendation forms and names of sorors submitting letters of
recommendation were read. Sorors voted and the ballots were taken for tallying.

GRADUATE ADVISOR - Soror Sharon reported that the AIDS walk is scheduled for Sunday,
April 22. This is a joint activity with Kappa Xi. A brochure for the National PanHellenic Council
is being compiled. Kappa Xi members do not want to hold a Rush this Fall. Soror Sharon
expressed concern since there are so few undergraduate members. Phase II of Greek housing
is underway and will not proceed to Phase III without commitment from 75% of the membership.
Soror Sharon reminded sorors that her term ends this year and requested suggestions for a
successor. A discussion was held regarding creating an Assistant Graduate Advisor position.
The Constitution and By-laws committee will meet soon and discuss.

WAYS AND MEANS - Soror Marian reported that there will be no fish fry for Juneteenth this
year. The event is being moved from Nucleus Plaza to Sammy Davis Park from June 9th - 10th,
and the booth fee is $300.00. A discussion was held about other options.
SCHOLARSHIP - Soror Jackie Hall reported that Soror Lisa has the applications and the
committee will meet on April 25th. The reception date of May 19th must be changed due to the
Youth Aviation Flight.

CONNECTIONS - Soror Ouida sent her report to Soror Babbitt and has been told that we need
to submit an article and picture to the Ivy Leaf by the May 1st deadline. Soror Ouida will donate

NBLIC - Soror Kaweeda reported that the Health conference will be held on Monday, April 23rd at

ARTS AND HUMANITIES - Soror Billie reported that we can get a speaker for $50.00 through
the Nevada Humanities committee. We must guarantee contact with the speaker, pick them up
from the airport, provide a location, have at least 20 people, and display the Nevada Humanities
committee logo. Soror Billie will get a packet of information and write any necessary grant. She
is considering writing a grant for a big name speaker. An Arts and Humanities camp will be held
at Fitzgerald ES on May 11th. Packets are being prepared for the children who will participate.

GRADUATE ADVISOR - This was a joint meeting with Kappa X. Soror Sharon announced the Theta Theta Omega mentors
for Kappa Xi members. Soror Ashley reported that Kappa X participated in Greek Week activties. Soror Ashley was
awarded the Outstanding Chapter Member Award, Soror Natalie won for Outstanding New Member, and joint scholarship
reception with Theta Theta Omega, Kappa X, and Omega Psi Phi won for Outstanding Education Program. Soror Ashley is
the presiding president for the National Panhellenic Council and Soror Natalie is acting secretary. Members of Theta Theta
Omega and Kappa X participated in the 11th Annual Aids Walk. The sorority was able to donate $465 to AFAN. Sorors
Ashley and Natalie will be delegates at the Regional Conference. Soror Sharon has been asked to present a workshop at the
Graduate Advisor's Training. Soror Billie was presented with gilts for her support of Kappa X activities.

WAYS AND MEANS - Soror Marian reported that the Juneteenth Fish Fry will be held on Saturday, June 16th from 10:00 a.m.
until 3:00 p.m. at Nucleus Plaza. There is no booth fee and we must provide all tables and umbrellas. Each soror is asked to
purchase two tickets at $7.00 each. Tickets will be available at the June meeting. Sorors Marian and Amanda will co-chair
the event. Volunteers need to report at 7:00 a.m. to set up.
SPECIAL/AD-HOC COMMITTEES
HEALTH/NBLIC - Soror Dorothy Johnson reported that the public program was a success and has yielded funding
opportunities. A video of Soror Nonna's speech is available for loan to the sorority. She is in the process of writing a grant to
open a Community Resource Center. NBLIC will have a booth at the Nucleus Plaza Juneteenth celebration.
AKATEENS - Soror Belisa reported that the AKATeens are havng a bake sale on May 12. The Unity Fest step show will be
on May 26th at Ham Hall. Motion by Soror Belisa that the AKATeens join ITO for the Juneteenth activity and sell pink and
green snow cones. Second by Soror Billie. Motion carried.
ARTS AND HUMANITIES - Soror Quin reported that a Writing Fair and Career Day ActMty will be held at Fitzgerald on May
11th. Sorors were asked to participate.
SCHOLARSHIP - Soror Amanda read Soror Lisa's report that seventeen applications were received.

Omega Psi Phi will be held on June 3rd at the West Las Vegas Library. The committee will work on changes to the

ECONOMICS - Soror Billie read Soror Diane's report that $2,182.80 from live sorors was reported for Black Dollar Days.
Sorors were asked to list vendors and amounts spent during March before leaving the meeting. The Economics Committee
will assist the Ways and Means Committee with the Juneteenth activity as part of "Invest in Black" month. The Economic
conference is scheduled for December 8, 2001. A location will be determined. A questionnaire was distributed regarding the
formation of an investment club.
HOSPITALITY/SOCIAL WELFARE - Soror Ethel reported that the committee met to discuss responsibilities for the
scholarship reception and the Juneteenth activity. She requested that committee chairmen contact her regarding assistance
for upcoming events. Several sorors met Sorors Norma and Diana at the airport on April 22. They were presented with gilts
and taken to dinner. Motion by Soror Ethel for reimbursement of $53.60 for the gift baskets. Second by Soror Amanda.

Carolyn reminded sorors to bring their financial cards to the Conference.

EPISTOLEUS - Items received 1) Thank you note from Soror Diana Shipley for the
hospitality during her visit to Las Vegas, 2) order form from a vendor who will be at

their Secret Sorors. Visiting sorors were introduced.
GRADUATE ADVISOR - Soror Sharon reported that prizes for the K.O. Knudson
Adopt-a-School Project will be awarded this week. She thanked Soror Wilhemina for
providing a room at the host hotel for Regional Conference. Motion by Soror Sharon that
Theta Theta Omega assist Kappa Xi in defraying the cost to attend Regional Conference
in the amount of $150.00 to be taken from the allotted budget of the Graduate Advisor.

the website. She thanked Soror Ethel for updating the birthdays and anniversaries on the

PROGRAM - Soror Billie thanked Soror Diane Pollard and her husband for their donation
of $1400.00 to be used for the Leadership Conference. She congratulated Soror Quin for
the Arts and Humanities Day at H. P. Fitzgerald and thanked the AKATeen Committee
for their hard work in preparing for the Unity Fest. The Young Eagles Flight was a
success. Motion by Soror Billie for reimbursement of $500.00 spent on the activity.
Second by Soror Sharon. Motion failed. The motion was amended by Soror Lavonne to
reimburse the full amount of $755.80. Second by Soror Barbara. Motion passed. Thanks
to Soror Lavonne for securing a donation of $500.00 to purchase t-shirts for the project,
to Dr. Westfield for his donation and support, and Sorors Ina and Jackie Hall for their
work on the scrapbook. Information was shared about the Summer Cooler. Resumes for

Means Committee with the Juneteenth activity in honor of “Invest in Black” month. The
Economic Conference will be held on December 8. A location is still needed.
HOSPITALITY - Soror Ethel shared the committee’s activities for the day camp at

be certified within one year of taking office. Soror Sharon will order all revised
documents and compile a binder for the next person. Kappa Xi still does not want to hold

PROGRAM - Soror Billie shared the awards received at Regional Conferences. Theta
Theta Omega was the first recipient of the Cornelia Banks Award for Health, placed
second for scrapbook, and earned a doctorate degree for EAF. Soror Annette received
second place for her poetry entry and Soror Billie received second place for the Ida L.
Jackson Award. Sorors Kaweeda and Sharon both served as presenters of workshops.
Twenty-three members of Theta Theta Omega attended the Conference. Soror Amanda
will serve as Thanksgiving basket chairman. A discussion was held about the possibility of
holding an event for new teachers. Other Greek and black organizations would be invited.
Suggestion to hold the event on Friday, September 21 from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.
The possibility of Alpha Kappa Alpha and other experts conducting in-services and
workshops for new teachers was discussed. This addresses the Education target.
MEMBERSHIP - Soror Carolyn reviewed the information for the Retreat on August 11
from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Hacienda Hotel (formerly the Gold Strike). The
meal will cost $8.99 and the fee will be $20.00. Soror Ouida would like to hold the

Three sorors, Donyss, Lisa, and Bema, have expressed interest in the Graduate
Advisor position. Soror Sharon asked for clarification on the requirement of being in the
graduate chapter for one year and information to include in the resume. Both will be
addressed in the chapter Constitution and Bylaws and Manual of Standard Procedures
which will be provided to members at the September 8th chapter meeting. There has still
been no word about a fall MIP.
IVY LEAF REPORTER - Soror Kaweeda reported that two articles with photos
appeared in the last Ivy Leaf.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
PROGRAM - A Constitution and Bylaws workshop will be planned prior to the October
chapter meeting. Soror Amanda will chair the Thanksgiving Baskets committee and Soror
Sami will co-chair.
NOMINATIONS - Soror Bertha Pendleton is the chairman. Resumes for sorors
interested in running for Anti-Basileus, Anti-Grammateus, Tamiochous, Graduate
Advisor, Philacter, and Member-at-large are due September 30*.
MEMBERSHIP - Soror Jackie Hall reported that information for eight candidates has
been sent to Soror Diana Shipley. One candidate may not be approved because of GPA.
MIP will be held at the Hampton Inn on Cascade Valley. Soror Jackie submitted a
tentative schedule and budget for the September 14-16 weekend.

SCHOLARSHIP - Soror Jackie reported that checks are needed for two scholarship
recipients who’ve submitted the proper documentation.

Banks Health Award.

ECONOMICS - The economics seminar is scheduled for the second Saturday in
December.
HOSPITALITY - Soror Ethel reported that courtesies were extended throughout the
summer. She requested that committee chairs give advance notice when assistance from
the Hospitality committee is needed. Soror Ethel is prepared to share samples of
souvenirs for Founders’ Day 2002 for approval.

Chapter Meeting
September 8, 2001
The meeting was called to order by Basileus Kaweeda Adams at 1:03 p.m. at St. James
the Apostle Catholic Church. Soror Barbara Kirkland led the meditation followed by the
Pledge. Soror Sandra Stewart-Bass presented a mini-workshop on the position of
Philacter and Soror Amanda McWilliams presented on Member at Large. Both positions
are up for election this year. Soror Kaweeda reminded sorors of the other offices up for
election this year and that resumes for those interested in running are due to Soror Bertha
Pendleton by September 30, 2001. Regional Conference committees were listed on the
back of the agenda and sorors were asked to sign-up during the meeting.
OFFICER REPORTS
GRAMMATEUS - Motion by Soror Jacki Brown to accept the minutes from the June
Chapter meeting. Second by Soror Greta. Motion passed.
TAMIOCHOUS - Soror Carolyn reported the following balances; Operating account -
Fundraising account Three scholarship requests have been
received and checks will be issued. Soror Carolyn asked that committee budget requests
be submitted by the Executive Committee meeting on September 19. The proposed
budget for 2002 will be presented at the October Chapter meeting.
PECUNIOUS GRAMMATEUS - Soror Ouida reported that a total of was
collected during the months of June, July, and August.
EPISTOLEUS - Items received were 1) October 20, 2001 Cluster information, 2) a letter
from one of the candidates declining the Membership Intake Process, 3) information about
the Links Walk-a-thon on September 22, 2001, and 4) thank you notes from Soror
Elizabeth Sheffield, Soror Stacey Hardy-Desmond, and Byron Adams, Sr.
HODEGOS - Soror Ethel thanked the hostesses for the meeting and announced birthdays
and anniversaries for the months of August and September. She shared the courtesies and
sympathies sent over the summer months. Returning Sorors Camille Bradley and
Cassandra Summers were welcomed.
GRADUATE ADVISOR - Soror Sharon reminded mentors that the undergraduates
return on August 22nd and to please contact them. Three candidates are needed for the
position of Graduate Advisor so that Kappa Xi members can select one.
IVY LEAF REPORTER - Soror Annette reported that Theta Theta Omega was featured
in two articles in the last Ivy Leaf. She will submit an article about Soror Dorothy
Johnson for a future Newsmakers feature. Soror Annette reminded sorors to visit the
website. She and Soror Ethel will present a hands-on workshop in October. Motion by
Soror Annette requesting $50.00 to submit a picture of Soror Dorothy Johnson with the
Newsmakers article. Second by Soror Lavonne. Motion passed.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
PROGRAM - Soror Billie thanked Soror Diane Pollard and her husband for their donation
of $1400.00 to be used for the Leadership Conference and Soror Ouida for hosting the
Summer Cooler. Soror Billie distributed gifts to sorors in recognition of Theta Theta
Omega’s contributions to leadership. Soror Gwen was thanked for agreeing to chair the
October 27th “Make a Difference Day” committee. Sorors were asked to bring food,
clothing, school supplies, etc. to donate to children at Safe Nest. Motion by Soror Billie
that a “New Soror” committee be established after MIP and chaired by Soror Beverly
Winston. Second by Marian. Motion passed. Soror Billie presented special gifts to
sorors who served as presenters at the Retreat.
NOMINATIONS - Soror Bertha announced the positions that are open for election. The
slate will be presented in October, sorors will vote in November, and installation of
officers will be held in December.
MEMBERSHIP - Soror Jackie Hall distributed schedules for next weekend’s MIP. We
began with nine candidates and six will participate. She presented an MIP workshop and
the commitment sheet was circulated for signatures.
WAYS AND MEANS - Soror Marian reported that the Mardi Gras Ball will be held on
either March 9th or 16th at the Rio Hotel. There will be a souvenir journal again this year.
Journal packets and tickets will be distributed at the October meeting. Soror Amanda has
agreed to co-chair the Ball. Soror Marian reported a Juneteenth Fish Fry profit of

AKATEENS - Soror Belisa reported that a carwash was held but was unsuccessful. The
informational tea is scheduled for September 29th.
NBLIC - Soror Dorothy shared her activities for the months of June through September
which included manning health booths at the Juneteenth Celebration and the Detroit
Connection picnic. She asked that sorors hang flyers about a free health screening for
women.

THANKSGIVING - Soror Amanda requested a $10.00 donation from sorors and names
of needy families.
ECONOMICS - Soror Billie thanked sorors for attending the Economics Workshop.
Planning is in process for the December Economics Seminar. Sorors wishing to assist
should contact Soror Diana Stith.
HOSPITALITY - Soror Ethel asked sorors to fill out information cards to be used for a
sisterly relations activity. Information will be published in the Tea Rose Talk and sorors
will make guesses at the meeting. Soror Ethel also shared plans for future Girls’ Night
Out. Visiting sorors, Angela Hensley, Heidi Payne, and Nadine Hill, were introduced.

Basileus, will be the speaker for the February 2, 2002 Founders’ Day. Soror Diana

LEADERSHIP TASK FORCE - Soror Jackie Hall needs someone to present a workshop
for her at Cluster on October 20th. All materials have been prepared. Soror Jacki Brown
reviewed the seven leadership modules and gave an update of the ones that have been
covered by Theta Theta Omega.

1) Soror Kaweeda thanked Soror Willa for her work on the Retreat. Soror Willa thanked

ON TRACK - Daimler-Chrysler is doing a documentary on the program and wants to film
an activity in October. Soror Jackie has been in contact with a person from the company
and provided Sorors Kaweeda and Shirley Carroll’s phone numbers. Soror Kaweeda will
contact Soror Diana Shipley to verify the information. Soror Quin has an idea for a
literary activity dealing with African American authors and book donations.

General Meeting Notes for - October 6,2001
Prior to our general meeting, the sorors had a meeting to discuss our newly proposed “Manual of Standard
Chapter Operations and Bylaws”, revisions. We also had a mini Ways and Means Mardi Gras Ball update.
The following is what soror Marian shared:
1. The site of the ball will be the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino.
2. The ball will be held on March 16,2002
3. Ticket price is $75.00 per person
4. Several bands are being considered. The maximum price that we will pay for a band will be

5. We will have a souvenir booklet again this year.
6. The menu is in the packet that Marian distributed to us.
7. A spreadsheet was also distributed to us. The proposed budget, expenses, profits, etc. were
detailed.
8. Tickets will be available at next month’s meeting. We will have five months to sell them.

the Souvenir Booklet Committee.

Graduate Advisor’s Report: Soror Sharon reported that Kappa Xi participated in “Break the Ice Week”,
the Joan Walker kidney transplant fundraiser, Sex in the Dark: A Sex and Relationship Forum, and the
Greek Convocation. Kappa Xi has developed chapter goals and objectives for the fell of2001. Soror
Levona Williams will present a workshop with Soror Celese Rayford of Theta Theta Omega at the InterMountain
Cluster, which will be held on October 20,2001 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Rush is tentatively
scheduled for November 4,2001 and MIP is scheduled for November 16-18,2001 or November 30 -
December 1,2001, pending approval from the Regional Director and International Headquarters.

Constitution and Bylaws: Soror Billie reported that sorors received copies of the proposed changes at last
month’s meeting, we were mailed copies of the proposed changes, and we had a workshop to discussed tire
proposed changes today before the general meeting. Were there any questions? Sorer Sandra asked
whether the additional positions of 2nd Anti Basileus and Assistant Graduate Advisor really that necessary.
Soror Billie stated that with the volume of work that the 1st Anti-Basileus and Graduate Advisor have to do,
assistance is needed.
Sorors were given ballots to vote of the proposed changes. Ballots were cast. The tellers were Sorors

Membership Committee Report: Soror Jackie Hall presented a tentative financial statement regarding our
recent MIP weekend. We did not go over our budget. We met all costs. The goal of the committee was to

Ways and Means Committee Report: Soror Marian reiterated some of the Mardi Gras Ball details. She
stated that Soror Tina Rimmey was a great asset when it came to fire negotiations with the hotel. Because
of the fact the Soror Tina works at the Monte Carlo, she was able to get many of the big-ticket items that
we would have to pay for, reduced. Yea, Tina! It was also stressed that we should work really hard to get
ads for our souvenir journal. Much of our profits will be garnered through this venture.

and Craig Road. At least 15 people are needed to make the training worthwhile. There will be a

Safe Nest: Soror Gwendolyn thanked sorors for bringing items for Safe Nest, which is a shelter for abused
and battered women. She stated that underwear, bottles, and diapers are especially needed. If ther^any
other sorors who would like to donate, please bring them to Soror Gwendolyn’s home or to H.P. Fitzgerald
Elementary School.
Old Business:
Thanksgiving Baskets: soror Sami reported that the menu for each basket will consist of: turkey, dressing,
macaroni and cheese, green beans, and cranberry sauce. The committee’s goal is to provide baskets for 25
families. Each soror was asked to donate $10.00. The committee will meet on Friday, November 16* at
Soror Amanda’s home to assemble the baskets and they will given to the families on November 17*.
Soror Kaweeda mentioned that the 2005 Regional Conference sign-up sheets are being passed around.
Please make sure that we sign-up for the various committees and return the sheets to Kaweeda when we
have finished with the sign-ups.
New Business: Chapter Committees and Hostess Sign-up sheets will be available at our November 3rd
general chapter meeting.
Manual of Standard Chapter Operations will require a motion. Soror Billie moved that the Chapter
accept the newly revised Manual of Standard Chapter Operations. Soror Carolyn seconded the motion.

WAYS AND MEANS - Soror Marian has a copy of the final contract. She’ll order
umbrellas for new and transfer sorors. Tickets will be distributed at the November chapter
meeting. A sample ticket was shared. Soror Verlia Davis has already sold the back page
of the program booklet.
SCHOLARSHIP - Soror Kaweeda reported that all checks have been sent to scholarship
recipients.
STANDARDS - Soror Kaweeda reported that the end-of-year evaluation will be done at
the November chapter meeting.
CONNECTIONS - Soror Ouida reported that there will be a Connections workshop at
12:00 prior to the November chapter meeting. Presenters Senator Neal, Assemblymen
Williams and Arberry, Commissioner Atkinson-Gates, and Councilwoman Boggs-
McDonald have all confirmed. A class to become a deputy registrar of voters will be held
on Wednesday, October 24, 2001 at 6:00 p.m.
CONSTITUTION AND BY LAWS - Soror Lavonne reported that proposed changes to
both documents were approved at the October chapter meeting. By-laws are effective
immediately. Copies will be included in the Program booklet and distributed in January.

FOUNDERS’ DAY - Soror Ouida reported that committee assignments have been given.
The rededication ceremony will be held on the Friday night before the luncheon. She
shared a confirmation letter from Soror Larzette Hale, 17th Past Supreme Basileus. The
theme will be “Blazing New Trails Through Economics”. Soror Larzette is an economics
teacher at the University of Utah.
LEADERSHIP TASK FORCE - Soror Kaweeda reported that all seven modules have
been completed. We will begin again in January.
Old Business
1) Dates for distributing Thanksgiving baskets were shared.
2) Chapter meeting hostess sign-ups will be done at the November meeting.
3) Sorors were asked to bring toiletry items or monetary donations for Safe Nest to the
November meeting or deliver them to Fitzgerald Elementary School.

1) Soror Annette expressed concerns about the chapter’s growth and holding MLP every
year. We should look carefully at the qualifications of candidates. She’s concerned about
new members not attending the first chapter meeting after MTP

Chapter Meeting
November 3, 2001
A Connections Workshop entitled “Everything You Wanted to Know About Being in
Public Office But Were Afraid to Ask” was held at 12:00 p.m. Panel guests were County
Commissioner Yvonne Atkinson-Gates, Assemblyman Wendell Williams, Senator Joseph
Neal, Soror Councilwoman Lynette Boggs-McDonald, and Assemblyman Morse Arberry.
Soror Lavonne Lewis served as the moderator. The panel discussed qualifications of a
good candidate, motivation to run for office, steps to becoming a candidate, and raising
money to run for office.
The meeting was called to order by Basileus Kaweeda Adams at 1:10 p.m. at St. James
the Apostle Catholic Church. Soror Barbara Kirkland led the meditation followed by the
Pledge.
OFFICER REPORTS
GRAMMATEUS - Soror Sandra Stewart-Bass was thanked for recording the October
minutes. Motion by Soror Jacki Brown to accept the minutes from the October Chapter
meeting. Second by Soror Annette. Motion passed.
TAMIOCHOUS - Soror Carolyn reported the following balances; Operating account B
and Fundraising account - The 2002 budget will be presented at the
December chapter meeting for inclusion in the Program booklet.

EPISTOLEUS - Items received were 1) a letter from Soror Janet Rhoden who is
becoming a Boule member and 2) a flyer about a book signing for author Gary Phillips.
HODEGOS - Soror Ethel thanked the hostesses for the meeting and announced birthdays
and anniversaries for the month of November. Get well wishes were extended to Soror
Billie Rayford. Announcements were made and “the real soror” for the month was Soror
Edna States. Visiting Sorors Flora Schaeffer and Denise Williams were introduced and
welcomed.
GRADUATE ADVISOR - Soror Sharon reported that Kappa Xi participated in “Break
the Ice Week” and AKA Coat Day. They are working with students at Matt Kelly
Elementary School and handed out breast cancer awareness materials during the month of
October. Soror Levona Williams presented a workshop with Soror Celese Rayford at the
Inter-Mountain Cluster in Salt Lake City, Utah. Kappa Xi has eight members, but Soror
SiMone Tyree is currently on withdrawal of privileges until her transcripts are received
and reviewed. Graduate Advisor Task Force members are encouraged to attend Kappa Xi
meetings and activities. Rush is scheduled for Sunday, November 4,2001 at 4:00 p.m.
M1P is scheduled for November 30 - December 1, 2001 pending the approval of the
Regional Director. Mentors were reminded to contact their undergraduate mentees.
IVY LEAF REPORTER - Soror Annette reported that the Public Relations Committee
will design the tickets and send press releases for Founders’ Day and the Mardi Gras Ball.
She will email sorors with the date for the AKA website workshop.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
PROGRAM - Soror Kaweeda reminded committee chairmen to pick up end of year report
forms. Committee and hostess sign-up sheets were circulated. Future events were
announced.

MEMBERSHIP - Soror Jackie Hall reported that a profit of was made from the
Membership Intake Process. A written report outlining money collected and expenses
was submitted.
WAYS AND MEANS - Soror Marian reported that the Mardi Gras Ball will be held on
March 9, 2002 at the Monte Carlo Hotel from 8:00 p.m. until 12:00 midnight. Tickets are
$75.00 each. The band, The Press, has been contacted to perform. Tickets and souvenir
journal forms will be distributed after the meeting. Soror Verlia Davis Hoggard has
already sold the back cover of the souvenir journal. Soror Jackie Hall gave the turn in
dates for ads. The committee will arrive at 12:00 p.m. prior to the Chapter meetings on
December 1st, January 5th, and February 9th to collect ads and money. The final turn-in
date is February 20th. Sorors are asked to sell a full page in any combination. Ideas for a
cover design are needed.
SCHOLARSHIP - No report
STANDARDS - Soror Sandra reported that the end-of-year chapter assessment will be
completed in December.
CONNECTIONS - Soror Ouida reported that Sorors Frances Perry, Wilhemina Lee,
Ouida Brown, Lavonne Lewis, and Elizabeth Sheffield were trained to register voters.
She asked that anyone interested in receiving training let her know so another class can be
scheduled.
CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS - Soror Kaweeda reported that final copies of the
updated documents will be included in the Program booklet. Soror Lavonne discovered
an omitted word in the drafts which will be corrected. Proposed changes to the By-laws
that will be presented at Boule were reviewed at the Inter-Mountain Cluster. We will
discuss these as a chapter as soon as copies are received.
INTER-MOUNTAIN CLUSTER - Soror Verlia reported that Sorors Sharon Savage,
Celese Rayford, Billie Rayford, Lavonne Lewis, Quin Rivers, Kaweeda Adams, and she
attended the October 20111 Cluster meeting. Soror Larzette Hale was also in attendance
and is looking forward to coming to Las Vegas for Founders’ Day. Theta Theta Omega
was recognized as the first recipient of the Cornelia Harris Banks Health Award. Sorors
Celese, Quin, and Levona Williams (Kappa Xi) served as presenters. Copies of a
proposed Code of Ethics for the sorority will be provided.
SPECIAL/AD-HOC COMMITTEE REPORTS
AKATEENS - Soror Belisa reported that their annual tea was held on September 17th and
a total of eleven new members were accepted. Policies, rules, and regulations were
reviewed at the first meeting. The AKATEENS will perform in a talent show sponsored
by the Archonettes, a youth group advised by the Zetas, on November 17th.

NBLIC - Soror Dorothy reported that she will travel to Los Angeles to present a
workshop on decreasing cancer risk through diet. She presented St. James Church with
two posters about the 5-A-Day Program for the children.
ARTS AND HUMANITIES - Soror Quin reported that the committee held a Halloween
party for Soror Gwen’s kindergarten class at Fitzgerald Elementary School.
ECONOMICS - Soror Kaweeda reported that the Economics workshop will be held on
December 8th at Community College of Southern Nevada, West Charleston campus.
HOSPITALITY - Soror Ethel asked sorors to reclaim Secret Soror gifts if their person is
not present at a meeting. She will visit Soror Billie in the hospital today and will deliver
cards and well wishes.
ON TRACK - Soror Shirley has been in contact with the reading teacher and librarian at
Fitzgerald Elementary School to determine their needs. They requested small group tutors
for grades 1-5. Those who are interested should call the school directly and speak with
Ms. Goines. Soror Shirley would like to have several sorors participate in Nevada
Reading Week.
FOUNDERS’ DAY - Soror Ouida reported that Founders’ Day will be held at 12:00 noon
on February 2, 2002. Sorors are required to sell three tickets at a cost of $33.00 each in
order for the chapter to break even.

OLD BUSINESS
1) Soror Sami requested that sorors donate $10.00 for Thanksgiving baskets if they had
not already done so. Baskets will be assembled on November 16th and delivered on
November 17th.
2) Soror Rhoda reported that she received an email requesting donations for the Senior
Nutrition program. The kick-off is scheduled for November 10th at 11:30 a.m. Theta
Theta Omega is asked to “Adopt-a-Park” or “Adopt-a-Block”. A suggestion was made
that the chapter put a pink and green bench and trash can (for Kappa Xi) in the park.
NEW BUSINESS
1) Concerns about the expense of refreshments for Chapter meetings were discussed. The
Executive Committee voted to have only drinks at their meetings. A suggestion was made
to have drinks and cookies/cake at Chapter meetings. A discussion was held which
included the fact that the chapter voted on this issue in 1993.
*Motion by Soror Amanda that Theta Theta Omega have drinks and dessert only at
Chapter meetings beginning in January 2002. Second by Soror Elizabeth. In favor - 35.

2) There will be a Founders’ Day Committee meeting on Monday, November 26th at Soror
Ouida’s house at 6:30 p.m.

be a joint meeting with Kappa Xi and all officers will be installed. Kappa Xi may
participate in a step show sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity on December 1, 2001
with a $1,000.00 prize. Rush was held in November, but there were no eligible
candidates. A Graduate Advisors’ retreat is scheduled for January 4, 5, and 6, 2002 at the
Gold Coast. The Greek Advisory Council has asked Soror Sharon to serve on a
committee to revise the Greek Relationship Statement. Buckle Up key chains have been
ordered to distribute to Matt Kelly students.
IVY LEAF REPORTER - Soror Annette reported that the article on Soror Dorothy
Johnson has been submitted for inclusion in the Newsmakers section in a future issue of
the Ivy Leaf. She designed and printed 354 tickets for the Founders’ Day luncheon.
Soror Annette has faxed a request to appear on the Lillian McMorris show but has not
heard from her yet. She is working on the 2001 publicity album and will hold a website
training in January.

PROGRAM - Soror Billie reported that we need to review committees/programs to see if
we need to eliminate any. She developed and distributed a list with descriptions of
committees and programs for review. A suggestion was made to add a column for sorors
to express interest in chairing. There will be an Arts and Humanities program at the West
Charleston campus of Community College of Southern Nevada on the Friday night before
Founders’ Day at 7:00 p.m. Kim Harris from the House of Blues will perform at a cost of
to the chapter. A reception and rededication ceremony will be held at Soror
Ouida’s house after the program.

ARTS AND HUMANITIES - Soror Billie reported that Kim-Harris from the House of
Blues will perform on February 1, 2002 at the West Charleston campus of Community
College of Southern Nevada.
ECONOMICS - Soror Billie reported that the Economics conference will be held on
December 8, 2001 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Community College of Southern
Nevada-West Charleston in Building B Room 105. Jean Jones, CEO of Alpha Services,
will be the keynote speaker. Presenters include Leon Pearson, Scott Craig, David Pulliam,
Linda Williams, and Sorors Sami Randolph and Bema Rhodes Ford. Soror Billie would
like representatives from financial institutions to open savings accounts for the students
who attend the conference. Sorors will be asked to act as facilitators for each session.
HOSPITALITY - Soror Ethel requested that committee chairmen contact her when
assistance is needed from the Hospitality committee. She also requested a quarterly
membership list so that birthday and anniversary acknowledgements are sent only to
financial members. Soror Ouida will provide these quarterly reports to the Basileus, Anti-
Basileus, Grammateus, and Hodegos. Sisterly relations activities will be announced at
monthly chapter meetings. Soror Ethel requested extra reimbursement forms. Forms will
be provided to committees in the future. These forms need to in triplicate so that the
Tamiochous, Pecunious Grammateus, and committee chair have copies.

FOUNDERS’ DAY - Soror Ouida reported that the committee has finalized travel
arrangements for Soror Larzette Hale and Soror Diana Shipley. Soror Annette was
thanked for preparing the tickets. Each soror is asked to sell five tickets to meet our 300
person minimum. Invitations will be sent to other Greek organizations. Sorors are asked
to provide contact information to Soror Annette. The rededication ceremony will be held
on Friday, February 1, 2002 at 8:30 p.m. at Soror Guida’s house.

1) The Martin Luther King, Jr. parade committee has begun working.
2) The chapter needs to vote for the Thelma Tyree Award.
3) The chapter needs to vote for Mardi Gras king and queen.

All members of the Graduate Advisors Task Force were encouraged to attend Kappa Xi
functions in an effort to reach our objective of enhancing the relationship between
graduate and undergraduate members. Soror Ashley was presented with the Graduate
Advisor’s Outstanding Academic Achievement Award.
IVY T -F-AF REPORTER - Soror Annette reported that the article on Soror Dorothy
Johnson has been submitted for inclusion in a future Newsmakers section of the Ivy Leaf.
The Public Relations Committee designed and printed the tickets for Founders’ Day.
Soror Annette has contacted Lillian McMorris regarding publicity for the Founders’ Day
luncheon and Mardi Gras Ball and is awaiting a response. Press releases for Founders’
Day and the Mardi Gras Ball will be sent to all media. An article on the Connections
Committee appeared in the Fall issue of the Ivy Leaf.

1) Soror Diana Shipley has asked us to participate in the Graduate Advisor’s Retreat from
January 4-6, 2002. She is looking for presenters from law enforcement.
2) Chapter dues are due by the January chapter meeting. Assessments must be paid before
dues will be accepted.
3) Appointments for committee chairmen, Second Anti-Basileus, and Second Graduate
Advisor will be made at the January chapter meeting.
4) Soror Willa requested that we get a storage facility or a volunteer to store the AKA
materials she has in her garage. Soror Belisa thinks the chapter voted on a storage unit in
the past. This will be researched in the minutes.

GRAMMATEUS - No report
TAMIOUCHOS - Soror Carolyn reported that the books have been turned over to the
auditors. The year-end report will be given at the January meeting.
PECUNIOUS GRAMMATEUS - Soror Ouida reported that a total of was
collected in December.
EPISTOLEUS - Soror Terri asked for the process for reimbursement for the Tea Rose Talk
for This comes out of the budget.
HODEGOS - No report
GRADUATE ADVISOR - Soror Sharon reported that Kappa Xi is on break now. She
shared the following upcoming events: 1/28 - Skee Week, 1/29 - Founders Day, 1/30 -
Cinema, 1/31 - Game Day, 2/1 - Rededication, PJ party, and church service. Kappa Xi won
$750.00 in the step show sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Their goal is to reach
target areas.
IVY LEAF REPORTER - Soror Annette reported that tickets and invitations for Founders’
Day have been designed. Notecards will be given as a gift to sorors. Press releases have
been sent and Sorors Kaweeda, Ouida, and Lavonne will appear on the Lillian McMorris
show to publicize the luncheon. Soror Annette will submit an article about Soror Dorothy
Johnson to the Ivy Leaf.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
PROGRAM - Soror Billie reported that the humanities program for May 16, 2002 has been
approved. Nevada Humanities will pay for everything. We need to provide the venue.
MEMBERSHIP - No report
WAYS AND MEANS - Soror Marian reported that ad money will be collected at every
meeting beginning on 2/20. Mardi Gras ticket money is due by March 2, 2002. Sorors were
encouraged to sell ads and donate door prizes. A new chapter picture was discussed.

AKATEENS - No report
NBLIC - Soror Dorothy is writing a grant with Bob Miller MS as a partner.
ARTS AND HUMANITIES - Soror Billie reported that Kim Hams from the House of Blues
will perform on February 1, 2002 at the West Charleston campus of Community College of
Southern Nevada. The cost to the chapter is $50.00.
ECONOMICS - Soror Diane reported that the Economics conference was a success.

HOSPITALITY - Soror Ethel reported that the Founders’ Day committee will meet at her
house on December 28th to assemble the favors.
ON TRACK - No report
FOUNDERS’ DAY - Soror Ouida reported that the committee has finalized the details for
the luncheon.
♦Motion by Soror Ouida that $800.00 be allotted for Founders’ Day expenses, including
expenditures for the Regional Director and Past Supreme Basileus. Second by Soror
Annette. Motion passed.
Old Business
1) The Graduate Advisors’ Retreat will be held January 4,5, and 6 at the Gold Coast.
Sorors Willa, Sharon Walton, Kaweeda, and Billie will present. Sergeant Ken Young,
CCSD, will present on gang behaviors.
2) The Chapter Operations workshop will be held on January 5th at 11:30 at St. James.
Officers are required to attend.
New Business
1) Program booklets will be distributed at the January chapter meeting.
2) Year-end reports and chapter dues are due.
3) The transfer form for Soror Nadine Reid has not been received.
4) Priscilla Graves was the education recipient for the Trumpet Awards. The reception will
be held on February 16th.
5) Soror Terri received a BS in nuclear medicine nursing degree at UNLV.
