Prevost, Marie, 1898-1937

American film star and Marie Prevost was born in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada as Marie Bickford Dunn to Hughlina Marion (nee Bickford) and Arthur Dunn. After her father's death in a locomotive accident, her mother remarried Frank Prevost and the family moved around the United States until they settled in Los Angeles, California. While visiting a film set, a director mistook Prevost as an actor. Mack Sennet gave Prevost her chance in film. She starred in 121 films, including Howard Hughes'The Racket (1928). Prevost married once to Kenneth Harlan in 1924, but the couple divorced in 1927. Prevost died in her apartment in Los Angeles from acute alcoholism after her decline in film and the loss of her career earnings on January 21, 1937.
