Chip Chat Newsletters and Catalogues

Abstract

The Chip Chat Newsletters and Catalogues date from 1994 to 2011 and contain Chip Chat issues 1, 2, and 4 through 49. Chip Chat was a newsletter produced by Douglas Saito and circulated throughout the gambling chip collectors' community. The newsletters were self-published by Saito. Generally three copies were produced a year, in some years there was more content, in others less. The newsletters focused on selling chips between collectors, tips for becoming a sucessful collector, the history of chips, and the state of the hobby.

Human Radiation Experiments Records

Abstract

The Human Radiation Experiments Records (1949-1995) contain reports from the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Advisory Committee on Human Radiation Experiments (ACHRE), and the U. S. Department of Energy (DOE). Also included are newspaper clippings, a court case brought by the National Association of Radiation Survivors (NARS), and cancer research papers. With the goal of building an atomic bomb using plutonium extracted from uranium, the material also examines the outcomes of radiation exposure done on humans during the late 1940s and early 1950s at the Oak Ridge Nuclear Facility in Tennessee.

Abstract

The Jordan C. Ross Collection on the Food Service Industry dates from 1979 to 2003. The majority of the collection is composed of operations and training manuals used by restaurants and hotels in Southern California. The remainder of the the collection is composed of catalogs for glassware, flatware, restaurant supplies and equipment, clothes, and wine, as well as books and magazines about alcoholic beverages, food service, and hospitality. There is also a small number of menus, business plans, and franchise packets.

Abstract

The J.W. Sligar Land Surveying Notebooks (1973-2002) consist of notebooks with measurements, boundaries, construction calculations, and mapping for land surveys of Southern Nevada, principally the Las Vegas Valley. Projects concern both public and private entities. The notebooks were created as a part of J.W. Sligar's work with ALCA Engineering and and Surveying, Inc, as well as for his own company, J.W. Sligar Surveying.

Abstract

The JMA Architecture Studio Records are comprised of architectural records (1953-2002) created by the American architect Jack Miller and/or his architectural firm, known as both Jack Miller & Associates, Architects, & Engineers, Inc and JMA Architects, Inc. This collection includes 30.25 linear feet of materials documenting work on over 250 projects. The collection focuses on Las Vegas and Reno, Nevada. The materials feature photographs of the firm’s projects and hand-drawn architectural drawings, ranging from pencil and ink on tracing paper preliminary sketches to ink on Mylar (TM) construction documents. The drawings also contain work from a number of consultants, engineers, and other architects who collaborated on the development of the various projects. The collection includes architectural drawings for hotels, casinos, integrated casino resorts, office towers, multi-family residential developments, and custom single-family homes.

The History of Nursing in Southern Nevada Oral History Project Records (1965-2014) are comprised of material related to a volunteer project initiative at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Nursing to conduct oral history interviews with nurses who have practiced in Southern Nevada. The collection contains subject files related to the project, as well as audio, video, and transcript files for the interviews. The collection also includes general information on nursing in Southern Nevada such as research papers and documents from the Nevada Nurses Association.

Most of the materials focus on gambling in the United Kingdom; the balance of the material covers South Africa, Canada, the United States, the European Union, Australia, some Asian-Pacific nations, and materials not specific to location.
