International Food Service Executives Association Records

Abstract

The International Food Service Executive Association (IFSEA) Records contain the organizational records from the IFSEA dating from 1916 to 2010. Included are meeting programs and minutes, menus, conference reports and proceedings, financial reports, newsletters, award certificates, scrapbooks, and stewards and caterers records focusing on the hospitality and food service industry. Materials are from both national and regional branches of the organization and include records from the United States military, with whom IFSEA has partnered with since the 1960s. Club artifacts and trophies are also contained in the collection.

Chabad of Red Rock

Chabad of Red Rock is the 8th Chabad Center to have been established in the Greater Valley Area. It was hosted its first program, a Chanukah party, in December of 2015. Like many Chabad Centers around the world, it began as a living room operation, to be developed into a community literally one person at a time.

Congregation P'nai Tikvah

Congregation P’nai Tikvah, formerly known as Valley Outreach Synagogue, is the only congregation in Nevada affiliated with the Reconstruction and Renewal movements of Judaism. Located in Las Vegas, Valley Outreach Synagogue was founded by Rabbi Richard Schachet in 1993. In 2005 he retired and Rabbi Yocheved Mintz became spiritual leader of the congregation. Reconstructionism views Judaism not just as a religion, but as an entire culture, which evolves over time and continues to be shaped by tradition.

Abstract

The Nat Hart Professional Papers contain the business records, personal papers, and photographs of Las Vegas, Nevada chef and restaurateur Nat Hart, who served as the Corporate Vice-President of Food and Beverage for Caesars World in the 1970s and 1980s. Papers date from 1930 to 2000 and include restaurant training and service manuals, business proposals, architectural drawings, recipe cards, cookbooks, menu specifications, photographs, scrapbooks, awards, news releases, and correspondence.

Oral history interview with Jimmy Lee conducted by Vanessa Concepcion, Kristel Peralta, and Stefani Evans on May 25, 2021 for Reflections: The Las Vegas Asian American and Pacific Islander Oral History Project. Jimmy shares his family's history as entertainers and producers in Korea and their migration to the United States when Jimmy was six years old. He talks about their move to Durham, North Carolina and their relocation to Las Vegas, his education, and his current business, mentorship, and philanthropic pursuits. On March 13, 1975, Luise Soholt interviewed Dr. David Bruce Dill (born 1891 in Eskridge, Kansas) about his experience as a researcher in physiology, specifically in Boulder City, Nevada. Dill first discusses his educational background in physiological research, including studies done around the world, and his eventual interest in the effects of heat on the workers of Boulder Dam. Dill then discusses the topics and findings of some of his studies, including one on heat cramps and one on the comparison between sweating in a dog and that in a human. Dill also discusses the use and purpose of salt tablets.
