The UNLV Libraries Collection of Coast Casinos, Inc. Promotional and Publicity Materials includes press kits, press releases, promotional materials, and newspaper and magazine clippings for Coast Casinos, Inc. in Las Vegas, Nevada, dating from 1986 to 2009.
The UNLV TV Audiovisual Collection (1980-2023) is comprised of recordings of television programs produced by UNLV TV, a media production facility housed within the Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). The collection includes samples of various television programs which include special events, lectures, interviews with prominent speakers and visitors at UNLV, and campus and community related B-roll footage.
The Frank D. Rathbun Photograph Collection dates from approximately 1915 to 1968 and consists primarily of black-and-white photographic prints and some corresponding negatives taken by Frank D. Rathbun and Michael Moen, who resurveyed the various sites Rathbun visited. The majority of the images depict petroglyphs located throughout the desert southwest in Nevada, California, and Arizona, as well as documentary images of the construction of the Los Angeles Aqueduct and the Hoover Dam transmission lines. Additional material includes postcards from areas Rathbun visited in California, Arizona, and Nevada.
The John Janney Photograph Collection on Pioche, Nevada contains photographs of mining operations and townspeople in Pioche, Nevada from 1908 to 1934. The photographs are primarily panoramic views of the town, mines, and landscape around Pioche, where Janney was president of Pioche Mines Consolidated until his death in 1967. The photographs also depict the baseball field in Pioche, a train crossing the desert in Lincoln County, and the Lee Family.
The Russ Morgan Music Manuscripts (approximately 1950-1967) are comprised of manuscript arrangements used by the Russ Morgan Band for live concert, radio, and television performances. The collection includes handwritten scores and parts for popular music.
The George Petri Collection (approximately 1977-2010) contains food and beverage management manuals and employee instructional documentation from various resorts in Las Vegas, Nevada including Empress Casino, Harrah's Entertainment, Luxor, and Station Casinos. The materials were collected by George Petri, who was a Maître d'hôtel at the Regency Room restaurant at the Sands Hotel and Casino and also worked at other resorts in Las Vegas. Materials also include artifacts such as silver plated dinnerware from the Regency Room and various menus and memorabilia from the Sands Hotel over the years.
The Clark County, Nevada United States Bicentennial collection dates from approximately 1970 to 1976. The collection documents Nevada's participation in the 1976 Bicentennial celebration of the American Revolution, as well as celebrations from other states and countries in Europe. The collection is comprised of official reports from the U.S. Bicentennial committee, scrapbooks from the Clark County bicentennial committee, newspapers, and event programs from bicentennial celebrations around the country. The collection also contains a film of various American states' bicentennial celebrations.
Basic Magnesium, Inc. (BMI) formed in June 1941 as a joint venture between Basic Refractories, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio and Magnesium Elektron, Limited of England. Basic Refractories, Inc. owned mining claims in Gabbs Valley, Nye County, Nevada, which produced the magnesite and brucite needed to produce magnesium metal. Magnesium Elektron, Limited owned the patent for the electrolytic process of extracting metallic magnesium from these minerals.
