Abstract

The Frank C. "Doc" Jensen Photograph Collection (approximately 1920-2005) is comprised of one black-and-white photographic reprint and copy negative of Frank Jensen standing near the partially-constructed Hoover Dam (Boulder Dam) and a photographic negative depicting Jensen in a naval dress uniform standing in front of a wall that indicates height.

Abstract

The Florence DeVinney Krolak Photograph Collection (approximately 1930-1979) contains photographic prints of the Casino Monte Carlo in Monaco, the Boulder (Hoover) Dam with local dignitaries, and Harley E. Harmon and Frank DeVinney (Clark County Assessor). The collection also contains one publicity photograph of Neil Diamond and some images have corresponding negatives. Frank DeVinney was an assessor for Clark County, Nevada.

Oral history interview with Mary R. Stout conducted by Greg Rowland on February 20, 1980 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. In this interview, Stout discusses her personal history and living in Boulder City, Nevada. Stout describes living in "Ragtown," a makeshift settlement for workers constructing Hoover Dam (Boulder Dam) before Boulder City was established. She also describes her father's duties as a pipe fitter while working on the construction of Hoover Dam (Boulder Dam) and how Boulder City has changed and evolved. Stout concludes by talking about nuclear weapons tests, her careers, and gambling in Boulder City.

In this interview, Wellman discusses his personal history and the history of Boulder City, Nevada. Wellman describes the construction of Hoover Dam (Boulder Dam), being a laborer working on the dam, and life in Boulder City during the 1940s. He talks about the United States government selling housing and land after the completion of Hoover Dam and how Las Vegas, Nevada has changed and expanded. Wellman also discusses the legalization of alcohol in Boulder City.

Abstract

Boulder Dam: The Pictorial Record of Man's Conquest of the Colorado River (1937) is a public service announcement film produced by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation about the construction of the Hoover Dam in Boulder City, Nevada in the 1930s. Included in the collection is the original 35mm black-and-white film that was shown at the Boulder Theatre in Boulder City which was owned by donor Myron Jones's family from 1959 to 1970.
