Abstract

The El Rancho Vegas Newspaper Clippings (approximately 1990-2004) primarily contains copies of newspaper clippings from 1940 to 1948 on the El Rancho Vegas from the Las Vegas Evening Review-Journal. The collection also includes copies of newspaper clippings on the Thunderbird Hotel and Casino and Club Bingo. The materials in this collection were collected by Joyce Moore for her research as a history graduate student at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Abstract

The Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project Web Archive contains archived websites that were captured between 2016 to 2018 that are related to UNLV University Libraries community documentation project, the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project. Archived websites of religious institutions and community organizations are primarily represented. The collection also includes archived websites of organizations such as Jewish Nevada, Jewish Family Service Agency, the Las Vegas Jewish Film Festival, and David Magazine. Archived websites for religious institutions include synagogues such as Temple Beth Sholom, Congregation Ner Tamid, Temple Bet Knesset Bamidbar, and Pnai Tikvah.

Abstract

The Margot Mink Colbert Papers (approximately 1959-2018) are comprised of materials that represent Colbert's career as a professional dancer, choreographer, and instructor. The materials span Colbert's career as a dancer in New York City at The Juilliard School, instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and instructor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The materials in this collection also document Colbert's teaching career as well as her professional studio Ballet Mink. The materials include press and promotional materials about performances choreographed by Colbert within the United States as well as other countries including Russia and Denmark. The collection also include recordings of Colbert's choreographed performances.

Bob Stupak Professional Papers

Abstract

The Bob Stupak Professional Papers (approximately 1900 to 2007) primarily documents the career of Las Vegas, Nevada casino owner, Bob Stupak. The materials in the collection include the planning of two resorts in Las Vegas, Nevada created by Bob Stupak: Vegas World and the Stratosphere. The collection also includes planning materials for the Titanic Las Vegas, an unbuilt resort envisioned by Stupak. Planning and promotional materials for Stupak's resorts including photographs, memorabilia, audiovisual materials, advertising mockups, and architectural drawings. The collection includes several scrapbooks and photographs of Stupak and his wife Sandy at events around Las Vegas. The materials also document Stupak's political campaigns running for mayor of Las Vegas in 1983 and 1987 and lieutenant governor of Nevada in 2006.

Abstract

The Brian "Paco" Álvarez Professional Papers (1997-2014) are comprised of the personal papers of Las Vegas, Nevada museum curator and arts advocate Brian "Paco" Álvarez. Cultural heritage institutions and events represented in this collection include the Neon Museum's relocated of the La Concha structure, the "Vegas VIP: Vegas Viewed in Postcards" exhibit and "Post Modern 2005" at the Mob Museum for the City of Las Vegas centennial celebration in 2005, and various photograph exhibits at the Liberace Museum. Also included in the collection are documents related to KUNV radio station "Gimme My KUNV" awareness event regarding the station's commitment to diverse radio shows.

Real to Reel Documentary Series Records

Abstract

The Real to Reel Documentary Series Records (approximately 1981-1991) consists mainly of production files used for the Real to Reel documentary series which aired on KLVX which was Las Vegas, Nevada's local PBS station in the 1980s. The documentary series was written and produced by journalist Claudia Collins. Episodes focused on local issues and general interest stories relevant to the Las Vegas community such as the National Finals Rodeo, Red Rock Canyon, women stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, and the Clark County Wetlands Park. The collection includes production files for episodes including scripts, research notes, correspondence, and newspaper clippings. Also included are digital copies of select Real to Reel episodes.

"Jazz on the Strip" Scrapbooks

Abstract

The "Jazz on the Strip" Scrapbooks (1991-2000) consist of ten scrapbooks containing photographs, event programs, newspaper clippings, and ephemera for the "Jazz on the Strip" weekly performance series put on by the Las Vegas Jazz Society (LVJS). Photographs depict the weekly shows at the Riviera Hotel's Le Bistro Lounge in Las Vegas, Nevada, and include performers such as Chick Corea, Russ Freeman, Bill Watrous, and other well-known performers. The scrapbooks also document other events put on by the Jazz Artists of Nevada, including annual picnics, memorial performances, "Jazz in the Park" outdoor concerts, and fundraising events. Included throughout the scrapbooks are the LVJS Jazz Notes, a monthly newsletter.

Abstract

The Tom Hribar Collection of Nevada Southern University Memorabilia (1965-1967) is comprised of newspaper clippings, programs, and publications primarily created by the Confederated Students of Nevada Southern (CSNS) that were collected by Tom Hribar, the former student body president of Nevada Southern University (NSU). Publications include student handbooks and directories. Also included are copies of publications such as Beau's Bit's, the student handbook; Polis; published by the Students for Political Action; and Matrix, an arts and literature magazine. The collection also includes materials such as correspondence and newspaper clippings related to an event where Hribar stole the Fremont Cannon trophy from the University of Nevada, Reno's campus as part of a practical joke in 1966.

Abstract

The UNLV Libraries Collection of Gaming Research Files is a collection of materials that date between approximately 1900 and 2019. The collection mainly consists of materials relating to conferences and expositions, gaming research files, and gaming technology and equipment catalogs. The conference and exposition materials include registration books, pamphlets, and printouts. The gaming research contains annual reports from different casinos and universities, as well as newspaper clippings and website printouts. The subject files are organized by state or international location, and contain clippings, printouts, and pamphlets related to different aspects of gaming. Gaming technology companies, software, and equipment catalogs are also found within the collection. The collection also contains DVDs, tapes, and several books on gaming practices as well as newspaper clippings, brochures, and documents related to problem gambling.
